Please do not move this to the religion board, as Mormonism is a cult, not a religion. Thank you.

My answer to this question should be obvious enough.

The Mormons are a diverse, welcoming, open-minded people, who totally do not deserve the ridicule they get from others.

Negative. Although I always had heard that LDS was strange, I was pretty indifferent toward Mormonism in general, but it wasn’t until I actually looked into its practices and tenants, and its not infrequent rescindments of the more “inconvenient” practices and tenants, that I found it to be extremely bizarre and quite disturbing.

However, every single Mormon I’ve met has seemed to be very friendly and positive, so while they believe some crazy s***t, I certainly wouldn’t say my opinion of Mormons is negative.

I may join depending on the quality of the sales pitch I receive Sunday.  I will ask the missionary her opinion on the best way to read the Book of Mormon, which passages are her favorites, and how to cook Funeral Potatoes.

Does anyone else see a double standard about Mormonism, compared to, Catholicism, Judaism, Islam, or Southern Baptists? If anyone put up a thread about Islam with the same results (as of now, it is 70% or so negative), it would be condemned as an embarrassment to the Forum.

The one area I disagree with Mormonism is its classification. It is not, in my opinion, Christian. It teaches views on Jesus that would separate itself as its own sect.

Perhaps.  However, the fact that people will call of an established church of several million members and a world wide following a "cult" is maddening.

I have no reasons to dislike mormons. They have the right to practice their religion. Most Mormons i've met are really nice.

Also, the OP is disgusting.

As a Catholic, they're definitely burning.

As a Christian, I like them better than Baptists and they're very nice, welcoming people.

The religion seems pretty silly (and that's a pretty high bar as most religions are silly) but as others have pointed out, the followers are the nicest people you'll ever meet.  I'd certainly rather have a Mormon neighbor than say, a Muslim or Catholic.

Mormons have a strong family-oriented society.  Mormonism is full of crazy antics and the like, but Mormons as people are very cordial and very friendly.

The Christian Community can learn a lot from Mormons, especially with their devotion to their religion.  A lot of people I know claim to be Christian, but they don't have a big desire to support foreign missions as Mormons do.  They are very good, and very unafraid, to share their faith with a complete stranger.  I, myself, quake in my boots whenever I have to do that.  We could really learn a good lesson from them on being proud of the faith you belong to and overcoming the timidity of sharing that with those who need to hear it.

Certainly no worse than other faiths. I don't think any other religion is in any position to call out Mormonism for being 'insane' or what have you.

I rather like Mormonism as a whole. They're a fascinating group sociologically, politically, historically, and geographically. I've never met one who wasn't a nice person. Some of what they believe sounds a bit out there, but I'm sure you could say the same about most religious groups. I also think they have a few similarities sociologically and thematically to Catholics, so I appreciate that.

No problem with them as people.

I wouldn't recommend dating one though.

Why is that?

Negative. In addition to their much mocked beliefs I strongly disapprove of their lack of charismatic worship services, usual formal dress to them, and refusal to ordain women.

Do I find elements of it odd? Sure. But I find circumcision as a ritual just as strange some of the Mormon stuff... almost, lol.

But for me, I don't care what your religious views are, as long as you don't impede upon the rights of others. Religion to me is about how YOU live YOUR life, just don't try to impose it on others.

I will always respect religion and people's right's to believe what they like, just as long as they equally respect the rights of others to believe differently.

Same as all the others.

Why are they just a cult and not say Catholics?

Shhhh. He's trying to make a point about how sinister his neighbors with the button-down shirts, bikes, and well-paying white collar jobs are.
