Ok, so I'm still doing my other timeline, but this one came to me a few days ago, and I reallyyy wanted to start it. (Also, The Americana Party is completely fictional, and made up.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
November 6th 2012: The President-Elect had walked onto the podium in Boston, Massachusetts. Rick Santorum, and President Barack Obama had just given their concession speeches. Now, back to Boston, Ross Perot had just finished up his speech, and than said:
"Well, enough from this old geezer! I'm proud to introduce to you the next President of these United States, U.S. Senator Scott Brown!"
The unthinkable had just occurred. A President was elected tonight...and he is not a Republican or Democrat. The Americana Party had made history tonight.
The Scott Brown-Bart Gordon ticket had just blown out President Barack Obama, and Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum.
Scott Brown (Massachusetts) / Bart Gordon (Tennessee): 39.3% ; 331 EVs    Americana
Barack Obama (Illinois) / Joe Biden (Delaware): 30.2% ; 111 EVs     Democratic
Rick Santorum (Pennsylvania) / Mitt Romney (Massachusetts): 30.5% ; 96 EVs  Republican
Now, to the just as stunning Congressional Results:
U.S. Senate:
Republicans: 46
Democrats: 36
Americanas: 18
Americanas elected tonight:
Maine: Sen. Olympia Snowe with 49.8% of the vote
Vermont: Jim Douglas with 37.6% of the vote
Massachusetts: Curt Schilling with 40.3% of the vote
Connecticut: Sen. Joe Lieberman with 36.6% of the vote
New York: Michael Bloomberg with 42.3% of the vote
Delaware: Michael Castle with 51.4% of the vote
West Virginia: Sen. Joe Manchin with 43.5% of the vote
Virginia: Virgil Goode with 38.1% of the vote
Tennessee: Phil Bredesen with 52.3% of the vote
Florida: Bob Graham with 47.2% of the vote
Ohio: Jim Trafficant with 32.2% of the vote
Texas: Ron Paul with 38.5% of the vote
New Mexico: Gary Johnson with 46.5% of the vote
Senators who switched over:
South Carolina: Lindsay Graham
Virginia: Mark Warner
Maine: Susan Collins
New Hampshire: Jeanne Shaheen
Kentucky: Rand Paul
U.S. House:
Republicans: 206
Democrats: 199
Americanas: 35
To understand how this was possible, we must go all the way back to the Party's founding in 1976...
Our story begins on Oct. 15th 1976 in Santa Fe, New Mexico:
A group of young men, and women (roughly in the 21-30 age group) meet up in a motel. There 5 total. One of them, a man with brown hair, named Fred Allegheny, stood up and called them into order.
"Hey everyone! We all know why we are here." he said as he looked around at the other four. "We are hear to start a revolution. We saw the disaster of Watergate occur before our very young eyes. Both parties have become essentially corrupt. LBJ didn't have the balls to stay through all of the Vietnam war, and good ole Nixon was too damn corrupt to give a crap about all the soldiers he sent out to die.
We cannot afford to sit aside  any longer. Our government needs reforming. We will become the new Founding Fathers of this country my friends. It's time to start an Americana movement."
After his speech, the group of five started to work on a potential platform for a new political party. All of them wanted a platform that would appeal to moderates, and the average American.
Eventually they would get a platform, one of unity and reform for politics. Now of course, it would be impossible for them to get ballot access anywhere with it being so close to the election. Not only that, but they only have five members.
These youngsters realized this, and decided they'd have to built up party registration over the next four years.
Allegheny then got a statement posted in the local paper:
"The Americana Bandits (Fred Allegheny, Diana Kellen, Morris Stevens, David Sandberg, and Jenna Vought) endorse Jimmy Carter for President."
4 Years Later...
Since the party was founded in 1976 it has grown significantly. Fred Allegheny got the party registered in New Mexico as an official party in 1977. He started a grassroots organization in the state to try to get the Americana message heard.
Here is the growth pattern in numbers: 1976-1980
1976: 5
1977: 95
1978: 1,443
1979: 12,335
1980: 16,774
Allegheny was able to buy a lot of Airtime for Ad's, and was able to connect with voters who were still bitter over the political corruption from 1974-1976. Allegheny spent $150,000 of his own cash to help launch this party. By the end of 1979 he was in debt, but the party was growing rapidly.
1980 would be the first election where the Americana party would make it's first appearance on ballots.
New Mexico Americana Party Nominee, John B. Anderson of Illinois.
Fred Allegheny's father, Josiah, is a very wealthy businessman who has been friends with John B. Anderson for many years. To help his son, and his young party, he introduced Anderson to Fred in 1980. The two quickly became friends, and eventually Fred was able to convince John to run as an Americana in New Mexico.
The Americana Party easily made the ballot due to John B. Anderson's name recognition, and they had a very successful election night performance:
29,459 (6.46% of the vote in New Mexico).
After the election, John Anderson came down to Santa Fe, New Mexico (Party HQ), and was elected Chairman. Fred Allegheny downgraded willingly to Vice Chairman.
Next will be The Americana Party Under John Anderson! Stay Tuned!
