Hi all, I'm a bit new and this will be my first attempt at a timeline. I hope you'll all enjoy it Smiley.

January 31, 2012
FLORIDA PRIMARY RESULTS
Mitt Romney: 41.0%
Newt Gingrich: 34.7%
Rick Santorum: 13.6%
Ron Paul: 10.5%

Former Governor Mitt Romney (R-Massachusetts) 63 delegates
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Virginia) 23 delegates
Former Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pennsylvania) 6 delegates
Representative Ron Paul (R-Texas) 3 delegates

"We will continue this race on to Nevada, on to Maine, on to Colorado and Minnesota, and on to the general election, where we will defeat this failed President!"

"I would like to congratulate Governor Romney on his victory. It was a hard fight. We made it worth it. But we will press on, and we will win this election, not only in the upcoming primaries and caucuses but in November, where we can call ourselves rid of this failed, socialist dictator."

"I congratulate Governor Romney on his victory, and I sure do hope he'll be there to congratulate us on ours in Colorado and Minnesota."

"We may have lost Florida tonight, but mark my words: on February 4, we. Will. Win. In Nevada."

And so, the race for the presidency continues and Nevada is at the forefront...

"Now, Ron Paul definitely didn't fulfill that promise he made in Florida, that he. Would. Win. Nevada, but he came extremely close, and we all know he's going to use that fact big-time going into Colorado and Minnesota and Maine later on. Especially, though, in Minnesota and Maine. That is where he definitely can win."

Just a suggestion--caucuses are notoriously hard to poll. The results shouldn't look like those polls.

February 18, 2012

"Over the past few days, I have been discussing with my family the future of this presidential campaign, and we have all come to the joint conclusion that our best course of action would be to announce my withdrawal from this race. I will endorse a candidate, and that endorsement will be announced this Monday."

In other news, Mitt Romney won the Guam caucus and all of its nine delegates. The delegate count now stands at 110 for Romney, 57 for Gingrich, 40 for Paul, and 22 for Santorum. Santorum's 22 delegates, however, will be free to vote for the candidate(s) of their choice at upcoming party conventions in their states.

February 19, 2012
"Yes, He Did" - Headline, POLITICO.com (referencing their February 12, 2012 headline, "Paul Scares Santorum Out of Race?")

February 20, 2012
"In 2012, there is only one man running who represents true, conservative Republicans and the family values that have made this nation strong. That man, ladies and gentlemen, is Governor Mitt Romney!!!" ~ Rick Santorum

Senator Santorum and Governor Romney appear side by side at a Romney event in Michigan. To the far left is Santorum's fellow former candidate Thad McCotter.

Santorum's endorsement brings mixed feelings. Many expected him to endorse Gingrich, but some say that this is not at all unexpected considering that Santorum made the same endorsement of Romney in 2008.

February 21, 2012
Newly released Santorum-free polls show that the race is still close, with Romney gaining a slim majority of Santorum's former supporters and Paul still fresh from his momentum off of Colorado and Minnesota on February 7.
MICHIGAN POLL
Romney - 39%
Gingrich - 36%
Paul - 15%
ARIZONA POLL
Romney - 36%
Gingrich - 29%
Paul - 16%

I wouldn't be shocked if Santorum endorsed Romney - the guy could very well attempt to play for a VP slot.

February 28, 2012
ARIZONA PRIMARY RESULTS
Newt Gingrich: 38.8%
Mitt Romney: 37.2%
Ron Paul: 23.1%
MICHIGAN PRIMARY RESULTS
Mitt Romney: 45.7%
Newt Gingrich: 39.0%
Ron Paul: 14.9%

Former Governor Mitt Romney (R-Massachusetts) 159 delegates
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Virginia) 67 delegates
Representative Ron Paul (R-Texas) 40 delegates
Former Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pennsylvania) 22 delegates

"Thank you, Arizona, thank you America, for propelling us this far down the path to conservative victory in November so that we can oust this failed socialist dictator named Barack Hussein Obama!"

As February ends, Newtmentum has appeared for yet a fourth time this campaign season. Will the fourth time be the charm? Will Newt become President? Only March will tell...

March 3, 2012
WASHINGTON CAUCUS RESULTS
Mitt Romney: 38.8%
Newt Gingrich: 38.1%
Ron Paul: 22.7%

Former Governor Mitt Romney (R-Massachusetts) 176 delegates
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Virginia) 82 delegates
Representative Ron Paul (R-Texas) 51 delegates
Former Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pennsylvania) 22 delegates

Newtmentum, for all practical purposes, has indeed held on in Washington. The race, decided by a margin of just 0.07%, is just the newest reminder of how volatile and fluid this race really is. Polls taken in Super Tuesday states show that the race will continue to be close:
ALASKA POLL
Gingrich - 34%
Romney - 30%
Paul - 21%
GEORGIA POLL
Gingrich - 49%
Romney - 37%
Paul - 8%
MASSACHUSETTS POLL
Romney - 53%
Gingrich - 32%
Paul - 6%
OHIO POLL
Gingrich - 32%
Romney - 31%
Paul - 11%
OKLAHOMA POLL
Gingrich - 55%
Romney - 15%
Paul - 4%
TENNESSEE POLL
Gingrich - 49%
Romney - 21%
Paul - 6%
VERMONT POLL
Gingrich - 37%
Romney - 33%
Paul - 7%
VIRGINIA POLL
Romney - 64%
Paul - 9%
Overall, Gingrich seems the most likely to come out on top on March 6, with commanding leads in the South (save for Virginia, where only Romney and Paul are on the ballot). Ohio and Vermont are, unfortunately for Romney, tossups with Gingrich leading in both places.

Vriginia's open to all voters, thusly Paul's best chance at a primary along with Vermont (also open).

"Yes, Governor Romney made impressive wins and Congressman Paul made impressive wins, and I called both to congratulate them where congratulation was due. But we won big as well, and that's why it's called Super Tuesday. We've proven that we're not just a regional campaign. We won in Vermont. We almost won in Ohio. If we'd been on the ballot in Virginia--which we should have been--we would have won there as well. But, looking ahead, things are impressive. We will win this primary and we will win in November."

"I have to tell you, this night has been far better than even I could have imagined! Thank you all, God bless you all, for fighting to take our country back and for helping us take a few steps further on the path to the White House!"

March 10, 2012
WYOMING CAUCUS RESULTS
Ron Paul: 38.1%
Mitt Romney: 36.6%
Newt Gingrich: 24.3%
KANSAS CAUCUS RESULTS
Newt Gingrich: 40.0%
Mitt Romney: 37.9%

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Virginia) 246 delegates
Representative Ron Paul (R-Texas) 150 delegates
Former Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pennsylvania) 22 delegates

Polls from the next batch of primaries, which will be held on March 13, are on the whole very optimistic for Gingrich. Gingrich is expected to win big in Alabama and Mississippi and hopes to eek out a victory in Hawaii, where the three candidates are locked in a virtual tie:
ALABAMA POLL
Gingrich - 58%
Romney - 18%
Paul - 5%
HAWAII POLL
Romney - 31%
Paul - 30%
Gingrich - 28%
MISSISSIPPI POLL
Gingrich - 58%
Romney - 23%
Paul - 10%
No matter how Hawaii votes, no end seems to be in sight...
