Not an issue for me. Besides, if Mitt is elected he won't be the first American president to be a Mormon, just the first to be one while he was still alive and in office. Wink

I think the anti-Mormon rhetoric is certainly excessive, but regarding the comparison here, it's definitely worth pointing out that JFK was never a Catholic bishop.

Good point.

What I find really odd is that Romney was nominally pro-choice at the time he led that stake. I'm amazed the LDS church would let anyone pro-choice into any position of leadership.

Fair enough.

Religious leadership is expected to have a somewhat higher moral standing than average members.  I believe this should be the emphasis of the opposition instead of "he is part of a religion that believes in lazer underpants!!!!!!HURR!!!!"
That isn't to say that I agree with all the criticism in this thread.  I mean good god people, if you don't like Mitt Romney because he's a Moron don't vote for him.  It's really that simple.

Christianity is one of the most powerful tools of oppression ever devised.

That's a funny way of spelling 'linear-temporal secular biopower'.

I know the clumsy point you're trying to make... Catholicism does not equal Mormonism (microscopic representation, and the weight of stereotyping - polygamy/magic underwear). I personally think there are many reasons to have issues with a Romney presidency, but his Mormonism isn't one of them.

Yes, there is no independant Mormon City State.  Smiley  [And Salt Lake City doesn't count.]

Both the Catholic and Mormon complaints are bigoted.

You mean its about a Romanian guy taking over the world via the UN and subsequently causing genocide after genocide...split hairs, why doncha...
Yeah, but thats Biblically based.  Doesnt mean the guy is gonna be Romanian necessarily, but most certainly the EU or UN will be involved and the genocide will occur.
That's hilarious because at my fundie grade school I did a project on the EU hoping to tie it to the book of Revelations and just ended up trying to wrap my 13 year old brain around the details of the Maastricht. But I made a nice map.

Remove the "secular" part and it sounds like something from the fertile imagination of Newt Gingrich.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints believe in Jesus Christ and all that entails,

Yes, this is exactly what makes them so dangerous.

Postmodern theology, actually, albeit a very specific kind.

The EU building is designed like a modern tower of babel - look at the picture comparisons.  On their currency - the whore of babylon.  Those aren't just coincidences.  There are charts called economic development zones on their website that separate the world into 10 regions and various EU members call for world government consistently.  The EU is a precursor, so at the time you might have not found enough equivalency, but you certainly can now.  It won't necessarily be the primary governance model, but it surely is a candidate.  My theory is that the EU will eventually consume Europe, strengthen its power and wait for America to be weakened.  Then it will begin to assert its influence on this country.  We really are the only country stopping the world from building a one world government.

This stuff actually is out there on the internet. Love it.

EDIT2:

Apparently the 'Whore of Babylon' is Europa riding the beast (bull), as featured on an Italian limited edition eurocoin. This stuff is literally tremendous.

Also 'Ode to Joy' lyrics were written by 'a man named Friedrich von Schiller' and contain:

I'd like to know where you got a picture of the "real" tower of Babel that wasn't something out of some Renaissance painter's imagination.
