I wear tight jeans and muscle shirts myself. That is my "facade." Tongue

But the clone look suits you, your preferences, your lifestyle, Torie.  My look suits someone else whom I have to cower before in the most insipid and desperate manner, for pennies.

"The elements of the look all served to emphasize the wearer's physical attributes, especially those associated with masculinity; those with buff body shapes believed that less clothing was often better, so that their hard work at the gym was evident."

That about sums it up. Tongue  My body fat percentage is down to about 11%, and my upper arms are now nicely "cut." Of course you show it off! It's just good "advertising." I don't wear checked or flannel shirts however. Smiley

But isn't any of this moot when one is, say, over 50?

Indeed.. No matter how hard you try.. things still flabulate and dangle in a most unappealing manner.  Wink  But then, Torie's a rich.  He's probably had "work" done.

But there's the whole point - if you're rich the desperate young gold-diggers chase after you precisely for your money.. so why bother with all the push-ups?

Narcissism?  Anyway, it pleases me.  And no, olds don't in all cases just dry up and fade away snowguy.  I "get" more now than I ever did. It's a state of mind and attitude, and well drive (with a little help from "my friends").  And yes, I had a very successful face lift done, which I have disclosed. I'm proud of it, and don't hide it. Why should I?  Smiley

Naso distrusts young people in inverse proportion to their immersion in "hip-hop" culture.

Then he must have absolute confidence in me- I have at least three books ranting against "ghetto culture".

I remember when an overweight, middle aged white male, cleanly shaven and dressed in a grey suit, walked into the campaign office during the provincial election. That was the man I least trusted. Even though he was on our side.

Agreed. Man...maybe's a Republican thing? Maybe what they say about liberals and conservatives having different brains is true? LOL

Also, I find it funny, and kind of startling, how you distinguish "younger people" from "older people" as basically the 30th birthday.  I am reaching that birthday very rapidly, now down to just 87 days.

On a side note, I find it eye-opening that kids who are starting to drive (16 years old) were born in the last year of President Clinton's first term (1996).  Adults (defined as 18 and older) were born in the second year of President Clinton's administration (1994).  Adults able to legally drink this year (21 y/o) were born in the 3rd year of President George H.W. Bush's term (1991).  Those babies who were born anytime in the Ronald Reagan administration were born are at least in their middle 20's at 24 years old this year (not counting the 19 1/2 days he served in 1989).  I don't know if anyone has thought of that, but it is kind of interesting.

Yeah it's strange. I don't remember any of Reagan, I was born in the final months of his Presidency but I'm proud to call myself a Reagan Baby (should've been my username now that I think of it).

My first Presidential memory is my Grandfather yelling about George Bush at my 4th birthday party in October 1992.

It's strange, my first memory is from the year 1990. 1992 on is pretty clear in my memory. I remember vividly big current events starting with Waco and OJ Simpson. I was too young to remember the Gulf War.

What's scary is I meet people who are teenagers of 15 and 16 years old who were small children when September 11th occurred, and I was in Jr. High. They have no memory of the contrast between pre and post-9/11.

Actually I'm not criticizing - if you enjoy it that's cool.  I have to say I think the uniform is in.. well its very much not to my taste.. but then aflietch's isn't either..

clarence, I should've thought you would know, by your age, that a polished façade is often so for a reason... namely deception.

I for one have adopted a 'professional' façade - the professorial demeanor, the slacks, the neatly cut and combed hair, the tucked-in button-down shirt - solely for the purpose of survival.  Life is, for we toilers, alas, a game of pretending to be what the lords of the manor want - and that is mostly someone who believes the nonsense that he should 'work hard' and respect authority.  So, in order to survive, we cravens subject ourselves to a life of lies.  You should have a lot more regard for the lads who manage to keep their soiled dungarees or shaggy heads of hair.
Point taken but if they make an effort with appearance I will assume they are trying with toher parts of life

I have to strongly disagree. I find that, while judging books by their covers is not always a morally proper thing to do, you almost always hit the nail on the head when you do so.

Let me tell you something that occurred with me about five years ago.

On a separate message board I used to frequent, there was an article from my local Cleveland TV station website with a video link about how an innocent housewife and mother of two, in her early 30s, was attacked by Police, unjustly arrested, and strip searched for no reason.

In the video, they showed this nice family photo of her with her blond hair and smiles, with her nice looking family.

She said a neighbor was fighting with police outside in the street, and she came to ask what was going on when she was thrown into the back of the Police car, and then hauled to jail. While being questioned, she said the officers asked, "Do you have thoughts of suicide?" or something to that effect. She said she responded, "Do you mean now or ever?" She then stated that at that point, the Police shoved her against the wall and strip searched her.

They showed a picture of her mugshot. Something struck me. Her hair, a very light blond in the family photo, was jet black. But not just black, gothic-type black style. She was also in a gray t-shirt and a raggedy jean jacket. Basically, my first reaction was, "Wait a minute...she looks like a trashy bar woman...not like the innocent mom in the family photo."

Anyways, I mentioned this finding and opinion to my fellow fourmities and they went into an uproar. "HOW DARE YOU MIKE?! JUST BECAUSE SHE DYED HER HAIR AND WHAT SHE IS WEARING YOU'RE JUDGING!?!", ect ect.

Turns out, some two weeks later, there was a blip on the local news website stating that her story was indeed fabricated. She had been throwing beer bottles at the police car, was arrested, taken in, and was completely out of control. At that time, a female officer, alone, gave her a pat down.

I received a couple accolades, but more, "Oh well, luck of the draw, Mike" type of accolades.

I realized then, sometimes judging books by their covers is the right thing to do.

I was waiting on a table at the one restaurant I was working at back in 2010, and saw a woman who was overlooking the entire alcohol menu. She took 10 minutes to order a drink. She overlooked everything from Wine to Beer to Rum to Vodka. I thought to myself, "She looks like a stuck-up, high maintenance woman."

I walked up and she informed me she was ready to order her drink. I said, "White Zinfandel?" She looked at me stunned and said, "How did you know?" I said, "Ah you strike me as a White Zinfandel drinker."

I didn't have the heart to tell her she looked like a stuck up biotch and many stuck up witches constantly order "White Zin" as if it's 1987 again. :eyeroll:

So see? Sometimes judging by the cover is a good thing.

Absolutely, more than middle-aged people and old people. I spend most of my time around people born, at the earliest, in the mid-'90s, being a modern American high schooler, and I understand how the vast majority of them think. As opposed to an old, who has much different experiences and is therefore harder to predict.

HOLY COW! Literally ten minutes ago, my father told me to come watch this video. I told him no, that it would aggravate me too much.

Then I click on here and you posted it!
