Romney will be a nominee and there's nothing that can stop him. Sure, Newt and Rick can drag the fight until very end, but it won't change ultimate result.

Newt had not one, not two but at least four chances to unite anti-Romney forces around him and just keep failing. And now, after Florida, it's too late to rebuild again. It's too late for any new credible anti-Romney to emerge as well. Time is working for Mittens. Florida was the last chance to stop him.

Unless he's revealed as an axe-murderer, Romney wins by default.

Shouldn't be hard.

Anyways, probably, yeah, but too soon to be certain. He won Florida by more than was healthy for a long-drawn out race's prospects (and with a larger share of the vote), but then again, not that much more.

Sorry. Not buying. Even in this landslide, Romney lost base demographics: evangelicals and very conservative. He won FL on the backs of Rockefeller Republicans who migrated south. He didn't convince anybody.

Sorry, show me next step where either Newt or Rick can possibly become a viable alternative to Mitt.

He is a paper tiger, but no one has the organization or cash to keep up with him.

And that's a whole point.

Romney's vote share was one point.. ONE POINT.. above the combined Gingrich/Santorum vote share. That isn't very impressive at all.

Presumably you didn't follow the 2008 GOP race then.

I'm not sure what you are referring to here.

Do you mean in the sense that McCain won the election with 30something% of the base vote, and then went to flop in the general?

Or that Romney improved on his vote share from 2008? That, I can't argue with. But the other factoid about McCain is a pretty significant warning for Romney.

I am actually looking forward to Romney being the nominee as his policy proposals and agenda (and general robotness) are not going to be very popular. He's weak.

I only support Newt for laughs

Evangelicals and the very conservatives need to get behind Romney, and forget about pure ideology right now.  You can NEVER find the perfect candidate, there is no time for extreme bipolar politics.

Yes, the president is so awful that the best Republican candidates sat this one out to prevent looking bad by losing..

Newt is genuinely the stronger candidate.

Nah, the strongest candidate was also the dumbest and I am talking about Rick Perry.

And he just can't stop failing. Had he won in Florida as supposed to, Mitt would be a toast. Now it's just too late.

So yes, Romney is a weak candidate and paper tiger. But is there stronger paper tiger to stop him in time? Autodestructive Gingrich? A "Santorum"? Ron Paul? Well, lol.
