The Buyer's Remorse begins
«

Interesting story about the growing number of Americans who appear to be realizing what they did in November:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20050107/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_poll
Apparently 49% approve of Bush. Not a big difference from the number that voted for him, but apparently about 1.75% of the electorate has come to their senses, alas too late. Or maybe they always disapproved of him, just hated homosexuals or sentient candidates even more...

People were evenly divided on Bush's handling of the economy. They take a dim view of his handling of Iraq, with 44 percent approving and 54 percent disapproving, according to the poll of 1,001
adults.
It was taken Jan. 3-5 and has a
margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
This is the second time in two days you posted an article without bothering to read it.
Granted, the article is extremely misleading, greatly overstates the significance of the poll, and serves as a perfect example of why the AP is a liberal joke.

That's well outside the margin of error.

No, 49% is not outside the margin of error for 51%, and it's a poll of adults, not likely voters.
Another poll had 54%.

The sampling error part is not important. The fact that the poll was of 1,000
adults
[/b] certainly is.
It would certainly make me put less, if any trust in this poll.

The Iraq 54-44 was outside the margin.
Anyways, if you pool the 48% and the 49% polls you get 48.5% with a MOE of 2%.

SamSpade, of course the margin of error is important. He's talking about Bush getting 2% less approval than he got of the vote, in a poll with a 3% MOE.
Iraq is outside the margin of error, but that's not what opebo is talking about.
Anyway, this is adults. Not likely voters.
No sign of buyer's remorse.

I think Bush's re-election might end up disastrous for the Republicans.
Sort of like Thune-Johnson, Thune-Daschle.

Bush's Inauguration Day approval ratings may be the worst of any president in modern-day history.
Ride a wave of discontent, Bush is turning out to be a mix of LBJ and Carter with a dash of Nixon.
He's back by unpopular demand

the only thing that's worse, in my opnion, than a one party system is a two party one.
i believe that america is going to regret electing bush for a second term and i think that the rest of the world is going to regret it more.
You really need to sort out your election system, it's a mess.

You have got to remember that approval is only part of the equation. When people vote it's a question of who do like better between the two. If given a choice between two candidates, some of those people are going to say, "I don't
really
approve of him (whomever "him" is), but he's better than the other candidate."
Nixon, from what I remember, was not particularly popular in early 1972, but his popularity soared when he was compared to McGovern.

One-Party systems are needed here.
People are only GOP or Democrat because thier parents were, we'd avoid that mess.
Politics is essentially a race between which side can produce the most babies.

'likely voters' has almost no importance in whether you approve or not, especially in a President's second term.

USA is in many way a One Party System on the Congressional level. Vast sections of House Seats are uncompetitive. In State Legislative elections, almost 40% of seats are uncontested. 40% of USA on the State Legislative level are One Party regimes, although at different places the "One Party" is different.
