Sen. Inouye on Hoekstra:
Quote
“America should expect much more from a candidate for a high federal position,” Inouye said. “His racist thoughts are not welcome in the United States Senate.”

The Chinese woman speaking broken English was particularly painful to listen to. The ad is at once offensive and contrived and silly.

I wonder what she was thinking.

I wasn't all that offended, because this is exactly what I've learned to expect from Pete Hoekstra. Anything less provocative would have been completely out of character.

You know for some reason I used to think Hoekstra was one of the more reasonable Republicans though I can't remember exactly why, I think it was because he voted against the flag burning amendment or something. But hey not as much of a flip as so many people did on John McCain in the same time period.

The ad was accidentally re-aired again today, which will bring added heat back onto him among voters weeks before the primary. It won't be enough to make him lose, but considering he should be a slam dunk for the nominee, I'll laugh if he gets under 50%.

Well yeah, because it
is
incredibly racist, and not only shows Hoekstra's pathetic pandering to racists, but also his bad judgment and lack of good arguments for why he should be Senator.

The ad may not cross the line into harsh racsim, but it's certainly promoting racial stereotypes, something that a Senate candidate should be above doing.

Just realized how random that post was. Expanding on it, what I meant to say was "there are other candidates running for the nomination besides Pete Hoekstra." Clark Durant is one of them.

Yeah... this ad is just playing with a racial stereotype in negative context. But it's not racism.
Just like this image:
It's just showing a negative stereotype of a bad Jew. But there's certainly nothing hateful about it.

Is there any primary polling for this race? There is no way Michigan republicans can still want this man as their nominee.

There is, and he'll win. The other guys just don't have the name recognition. And half of them are nuts.
