Teddy's posts just made me facepalm more than anyone else besides really blatant hacks like J. J. and krazen, cultish libertarians like wormyguy, and flat out trolls. And he would give me crap for the most ridiculous things too.
And his posts about marijuana, what?

I seem to recall quite a few people including you acting far more gloating after the banning of Rochambeau.

So, you're adopting a DWTL stance ("few liberals made mean comments when Helms died, so I'll make mean comments when Kennedy will die").
Not to mention there's a difference between a prolific spammer, who was pretty much a pain in the ass for anyone here, and Teddy.
We all know Teddy's condition so it's like kicking a men on the wheelchair.

Alas, the 'Atlas game' is all about banning now - about currying favor with the little h*****s, and about gloating when someone we don't like gets banned by same. Its an ugly mess, not unlike life.

I've said this before, but if BRTD has been around in the 1970s he'd be harping on incessantly about how cool and liberal the pastor of his hipster People's Temple is and how he's going to move to this awesome jungle compound in Guyana.
e: I don't really care about his vendetta against Teddy or whatever it is, but it's worth noting that BRTD's posts are regularly as annoying and terrible as those he's criticising Teddy for.

I have always disliked his inability or unwillingness to temper some of his eccentricities for the benefit of a coherent narrative. his gloating over the banning of Teddy, when BRTD of all people should understand how it puts his very membership on this site in serious and interminable peril, is a symptom of this larger problem. that said I have been a longtime BRTD sympathizer/apologist and I so remain.

BRTD, you are an HP. Those who lambaste ties and suits are at the vanguard of the destruction of society. They are the hallmarks of civilization, of culture, and you hold a contempt for them matched only by my approbatory fervor. I respect you, but I can never like you as long as that remains your position.

After seeing some of his vitriolic anti-Teddy posts, I put him on ignore.
I also unignored jmfcst.
My forum experience is now much more enjoyable. (I never realized just how little BRTD actually contributes (and yes, I realize that is somewhat hypocritical.))

OK I have a lot to own up to here. It's not surprising that my FF rating has dropped about 15 points from the
last poll
, only about a month ago. Well I'll start with this:
Quote from: Hell is in New Jersey on February 08, 2012, 10:36:46 am
So, you're adopting a DWTL stance ("few liberals made mean comments when Helms died, so I'll make mean comments when Kennedy will die").
Not to mention there's a difference between a prolific spammer, who was pretty much a pain in the ass for anyone here, and Teddy.
We all know Teddy's condition so it's like kicking a men on the wheelchair.
I suppose this shows subjective opinion a lot. To me Rochambeau was like harmless background noise. He didn't contribute in the slightest but I really didn't even notice him because he was so bland. Teddy was like someone talking loudly in a movie theater. Honestly I think I was irritated by him a bunch more than most were because a lot of his quirky behavior was the type of stuff I have to put up with a lot in real life, the Hulu thing being a prime example. He also went after me directly over a lot of really ridiculous stuff, for example he actually seemed offended by some of the music I listen to and the shows I go to (and not "OMG this is terrible how could anyone like this?" but "OMG it's so terrible this exists, anyone who likes this has serious problems, this is all a huge problem and anyone who is into this at all has serious issues." like it was equivalent to politicaladdict's rape porn or something.)
For the record I don't see how "He has obvious mental issues" is much of an excuse for anything, considering how that also obviously applies to many previously banned posters who aren't getting such a positive eulogy despite never threatening to assault and stab someone else.
However this is also true:
Quote from: Nathan on February 08, 2012, 01:59:43 pm

Quote from: Hell is in New Jersey on February 08, 2012, 10:12:20 am

I actually got a bit of a high last night with the Teddy bashing which was actually pretty restrained. People in IRC might recall how I was joking about making polls asking who was more pathetic him or Pawlenty, who was sadder him or Politico or about spamming him with Hulu links next time I saw him on AIM. But the next day this was no longer the case and I felt very sh**ty about it, I'm sure we've all been through this before as kids when you got angry at your parents and trashed them and was a huge jerk and it feels good until afterwards when the guilt sinks in, it's probably not surprising God wired us that way. (BTW if you're wondering if this is true about me in the past about previous rants against Irish, Catholics or whatever, the answer is yes. I didn't show it on the forum, but oh yes it's so true.) In my "opebo vs. Teddy" poll I actually made a comment about how during the debates Teddy would overreact to some minor thing or perceived offense from a debate moderator, flip out and have a nervous breakdown on the air and opebo would win in a landslide. After realizing that this was actually very likely to be true and thus not very funny I deleted it.
For the record during my whole campaign to unban Einzige and Libertas after the whole finding God thing I was actually not thrilled with the idea of either one's return on a personal level, I was just as annoyed with them then as I was at the time. However at the time I was thinking about how it wasn't always going to be easy to treat others the way God wanted and I had to get past my personal distaste just I had to with so many other things. Now for the record I still strongly support their unbanning largely because both have proven they have changed and are capable of interacting here. I can't say the same for Teddy but that's due to that being here is obviously not healthy for him either, he already flipped out and left the forum twice over pretty trivial things and threatening to assault someone over a dispute on an internet board isn't exactly a sign of stellar mental health either. But I shouldn't have become overcome by my primeval urges due to how irritating I frequently found him either. This forum is obviously not a positive factor on his real life, where I wish him no harm, so his banning would be for the best. But reverting to that type of behavior so reminiscent of "old BRTD" most certainly wasn't the best thing to be doing. I'm quite ashamed I did that in the week before my baptism really.
Something I've implied to before but never explicitly stated before on the forum is that whole born again experience actually happened after a gradual period where I was re-evaluating a lot of the things I was doing and my tendencies for a lot of things, and no I'm not referring to on the forum, more like things in real life similar to my lashouts here except far more subtle. A realization that this was not in any way positive made me seek things out in odd ways, after one experience it all just came to a head and I become that completely spirit-filled type preaching to jmfcst about forgiveness not too long after I was mocking him and laughing over the premise of his banning. That high really didn't last long unfortunately. My behavior changed so much in real life that I had people asking if I was sick or experimenting with new drugs, including my parents. I actually think I might've burnt myself out on it not too long after starting it with all the church stuff I got into, kind of a big leap for someone who previously was going basically only on holidays. This is actually reminding me of a real life testimonial I gave. But this whole recent bit just showed how likely backslides are to happen.
So yeah I rambled long which I'm not surprised by. Just accept that I'm human and imperfect and at least capable of realizing many of these imperfections, even though it took a very long time if you actually read all this. And btw I'll also admit that this:
Quote from: Gingrich Agonistes on February 08, 2012, 12:37:38 pm
I've said this before, but if BRTD has been around in the 1970s he'd be harping on incessantly about how cool and liberal the pastor of his hipster People's Temple is and how he's going to move to this awesome jungle compound in Guyana.
is probably true. Yes I have a bandwagon personality type and if I get attached to something it gets my undying devotion. I've been that way since middle school cliques.
