Alaskans have enough signatures to put marijuana on the ballot. It's a matter of verification now.

Hopefully this can encourage the base to turn out for Begich too.

The ballot initiative would be on the ballot in August, not November. Doesn't affect Begich at all.

Oh yeah I forgot about Alaska. It's kind of strange though, their 2014 initiative would be on the August primary ballot if they get enough signatures. Don't know why they're aiming for that date.

This actually bodes ill for the pro-legalization vote. Not only will a primary vote bring out fewer 'casual' voters who are more likely to be younger and mj friendlier, but with Begich. Running unopposed for renomination and heavily contested GOP primary, the electorate will be Dem light.

New poll shows that while a majority of Utahns supported marijuana for medical purposes, an overwhelming majority opposes it for recreational purposes.

So now "libertarian" Utah is more anti-weed than Louisiana, which is pro-weed.  Weird.

Mormons are way, way not libertarians.  I don't know where that conventional wisdom comes from.  Just because people live near mountains doesn't make them grizzled individualists.

I don't think anyone ever considered Utah to be libertarian...it's very socially conservative. Maybe you were thinking of Wyoming?

I've heard a few say that the Western Republican states had libertarian sympathies, but I don't see it.  All of them are socially conservative.

NH supports HB492 (legalization bill) 60-40. Old poll from October, not sure if you got it.

Utah is very moralistic and socially conservative, but recently there have been a bunch of news stories about Mormon moms with kids that have painful disorders or illnesses (like epilepsy) that need to get medicinal marijuana to ease their kids pain/upset digestive systems. Specifically, a couple of Utah lawmakers have promoted a individual strain of marijuana that's strong enough to help the kids, but not enough to get them high.

Utah is in no way libertarian.

Hey guys,

I am a conservative in favor of marijuana legalization. Looks like Massachusetts may also get a referendum on recreational marijuana legalization, it will probably pass as well.

I intended on posting a link to a news article proving that, but it looks like I cannot do that yet.

Yeah, I heard it was going to be implemented in 2016.

It is only a matter of time before both parties start to finally support softer marijuana laws.
