Some interesting crosstabs there. Apparently 18-29 year olds oppose marijuana legalization more than 65+ year olds do.

Theory: 65+ year olds are old enough to remember when marijuana was legal in Alaska, and thus the idea of it being legal again is not so foreign and scary.

It looks likely the third Oregon legalization initiative (not the 2012-ish/Paul Stanford ones) will be on the ballot this November (the signature deadline is July twenty-something, so we'll know for sure then): http://www.oregonlive.com/mapes/index.ssf/2014/05/oregon_marijuana_measure_gets.html

Also, the Alaska legalization initiative has been bumped from the August primary to the November general election: http://www.alaskacommons.com/2014/05/12/marijuana_intrigue_ushouse/

Actually the signature deadline is July 3, 2014 and it looks like that initiative (#53) will make it while the other two probably won't: http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/oregon-pot-initiative-nears-signature-target/2014/06/13/556ddfde-f35a-11e3-8d66-029598e98add_story.html

This happened about a month ago, but the Ohio Rights Group reportedly say they have the 385,247 signatures from at least 44 Ohio counties required to get the industrial hemp and medical marijuana questions on the November ballot with the petitions required by July 5th. They won't release their accumulated count though and they say this after disrupting precinct voters for their signatures on May 6th. If they do have the 385K signatures they say they do, they should have an extra 50K at least for backup on other signatures that could end up being denied. DeWine approved the initial signatures for circulation in 2011 and subsequent approval in 2012 by Husted's Ballot Board after believing the amendment only addressed one issue. They only gained 5,000 sigs in 2012,

As for the legislature, no bill will ever pass here since we have a GOP super-majority and it's mostly a partisan effort by a few Democrats. State Rep. Bob Hagan (D-Youngstown) sponsored a bill and a resolution (HB153 and HJR6) in the Ohio House to legalize medical marijuana and another that would legalize, tax and regulate marijuana if approved by initiative. Neither bill has even made it out of committee though since Health & Aging Committee Chairman Lynn Wachtman (R) strongly opposes both bills. The Ohio Senate has seen little to nothing done on it, but former State Rep. Kenny Yuko, a staunch marijuana supporter, was elected to the Ohio Senate this year, so he might try proposing something, to.

If this does make the ballot, there's no doubt it would get passed. Quinnipiac's Feb. 2014 poll had Ohioans in favor of medical marijuana by a nearly unanimous 87-11 margin. I still stand by my belief on both types of marijuana though and will be one of the 11% to vote against it if it does make it to the Nov. ballot, sorry to say.

At least you can acknowledge you're on the losing side of this issue and that there is little you can do to turn back progress as time goes.

It'll pass in Maryland soon enough.

I'd be surprised. There's a lot of people in the establishment like Joe Vallario and Mike Miller who would never let a legalization bill see the light of day. I doubt Future Gov. Brown would support it, either.

Alaskans don't want to 420 blaze it. Sad

The ballot measure is losing 44-49, according to PPP.

Haven't they been following the news? Tongue

Two of those three marijuana initiatives didn't have enough signatures to make the ballot. It's only the NAO initiative that made it. I don't think that initiative 10 they polled made it either.

The reporter for KTVA news in Anchorage, Alaska recently did a story on marijuana legalization in her state. During the live broadcast, the reporter revealed that she, herself, is the owner of Alaska Cannabis Club, the only medical marijuana club in the state. And that she's dedicating herself to fighting for legalization, and ... well, you know, f*** it.
