Good timeline so far.  Though I think a couple of the individual state results are a bit unrealistic.  Wyoming isn't a real caucus.  It's county conventions, where only the party insiders get to vote.  (See the 2008 results, for example.)  So there's no way that Paul's going to win that.  And there's no way that Romney only gets 26% in Idaho, because Mormon turnout will be higher than that.

I'm also a little surprised that Gingrich didn't stick it out longer, since this is a brokered convention timeline, but I guess his delegates could still be key.  You could have him "suspend" his campaign though, rather than end it, so that he can try to hold onto his delegates just in case.

August 2nd 2012

CNN News Report:

Rumors are flying that Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and South Dakota Senator John Thune are being considered as potential "compromise" candidates for the 2012 Republican Nomination. The GOP's convention, which will be held later this month in Tampa, Florida, is set to be a "brokered"convention because none of the three remaining candidates met the required amount of delegates during the primary season. When asked if he'd accept the GOP's nomination for President, Governor Christie said "It's something I'm considering, but if I were asked today, my answer would be no. I want to serve a full term as Governor of New Jersey and unless the party desperately needs me, I'm going to sit this one out." We also spoke to Senator John Thune, who said "I'm warming up to the idea, but I don't think I have what it takes to win the election. I mean, President Obama is a word master. He has a loyal and faithful base and I just don't think I could pry that base from him. But I'd accept if the party needed me." Governor Mitch Daniels could not be reached for comment.

Heres a interesting compromise candidate-------General Petraeus.

The problem is that he's serving under Obama in an administrative capacity if anything more directly than Huntsman was as ambassador.
