I think that the distinction between crossdressers/transvestites and full-fledged transsexuals (people who, as Nathan described, feel alien to their own body etc.) is worth making.

Quite a while back, This American Life did a pretty fascinating interview with a female-to-male transgender person (for whatever reason, people don't usually talk much about the female-to-male ones) about how he was adjusting to his new life as a man, and he kept talking about how weird the testosterone was making him feel, in both good and bad ways (especially his newfound desire to start checking people out).

It's "Act 2," the clip is 17 minutes.
