Madison County, IL really sends them out early...

And I even voted a straight ticket! (Not saying much with 2 offices on the ballot...)

You said there were only two races; did you have a federal ballot only? Why not vote in the downballot races?

Franzl can of course answer for his own situation about which I don't know, but generally US citizens living abroad (as opposed to those who are still considered US residents voting absentee) receive only a federal ballot based on their most recent US residence. You don't lose your right to vote for federal office when you move overseas, but you're no longer a resident of any state.

My US politics teacher told me that you either register as intending to return to the US, whereby you can vote for local offices; or not intending to return to the US; where you only vote in the federal races. I'm not sure if this is how it works where he's from (Arkansas) or if it applies federally.

Voting on Election Day has always been a tradition for me, and I once vowed I would never vote absentee unless I actually had to because I wouldn't be available on Election Day. However after waiting 2 1/2 hours in line in 2008 I've thought about it a bit more.

I think I'll still do it again though this time. Hey it's once every four years. Yes it involves getting up well before 8AM and standing outside in Minnesota in early November for that long, but being able to say I'm willing to do that is part of the deal.

Yes, precisely. I'm a "non-resident civilian" indefinitely now, meaning only eligible for federal offices.

Wow, Deutsche Post charged € 3.45 for it. Didn't used to cost that much to vote...

My boyfriend has voted (Santa Cruz), but I don't know if they've received the ballot in the mail yet. And he's not from the site.

New York is stupid and has neither early voting nor no-excuse absentee ballots, so I can't vote until election day.
