Perot elected on the back of Zippergate in '96

Bill Clinton resigns in disgrace when a Secret Service Agent comes out with an explicit tape of him enjoying Monica's fellatio, and criticising the Cuban Embargo for denying the two of them a good cigar.
Robert Joseph Dole/Jack French Kemp
269 EV
President Albert Arnold Gore/(lil help?)
240 EV
H Ross Perot/Pat Choate
29 EV
With Bob Dole just one EV shy of the Presidency, it seemed likely he would be made so by the Republican Congress. He and Speaker Newt Gingrich will meet to discuss big supply-side tax cuts, but Dole snubs Grinch at his offer by walking out, declaring "Not in Bob Dole's Administration!" Reaganomic GOPers will wrangle with the constitution and Dole in an effort to elect Jack Kemp but it falls through.
In the end, they find their man in Ross Perot, who will soon become the 44th potus, and 2nd to be elected by the House...

forgot to mention Clinton resigns. And it was a Cuban cigar he smuggled in, just to lend the almost-impeachment proceedings greater precedent.

Interesting.
For Gore's VP, some suggestions might be John Kerry, Tom Daschle, Dick Gephardt, Sam Nunn, or Bob Kerrey. Who'd the Senate elect for VP? With Republicans controlling it, I'd assume Jack Kemp.

*Gore-Kerry
The newly inaugurated President delivers the shortest inaugural address in history:
"Boy, who'da thunk it? Things are going to be a whole lot different 'round here that's for sure.
The election is over now and through legislative wrangling your congress has made me your President. Here's a fun fact: John Quincy Adams was the last President elected by the House of Represenatives. I may not have received a mandate from the people but they will receive one from me. It is time for your government to stick to it's words and get the job done. Thank you."
Sparse applause is awkwardly received from an audience accustomed to skilled oratory. Perot shakes hands with outgoing President Gore, before "getting back to the office" as he puts it.

Not sure about this. After all, Kerry was up for reelection in 1996.

Rombiddly, he does a solid for the party when they promise him endorsements (thanks for yours jr), delegates for the next cycle and a round-the-clock campaign team for his Senatorial re-election bid.
I've replied to jr's request by asking how one imports/uploads pictures to daveleip in another post (but any help's helpful).

If Kerry is still running mate, then even if he does run for re-election he will likely lose, quite possibly to the kickass Governor Weld

Yeah, I forgot about that particularly competitive senate election. Thusly, Senator Weld will be a contender in the next cycle.
As to the cabinet,
State
Madeleine Albright
Treasury
Pat Choate
Energy
Eric Eidsness
Defense
John McCain,
withdrew
William J Snowe
Commerce
Ralph Nader
Interior
Dick Lamm
Labor
Elaine Chao

Yuck! How about Ron Paul or Powell at SecDef? Maybe Condy gets the NSA nod earlier than otl?

Perot didn't wanted to appoint a Gulf War opponent like himself to the SecDef post but the Republicans speculated of his advanced years hindering his performance in the hearings and offered Perot Mac or Powell.
A common negative public perception over the next four years will be of Perot as a GOP puppet.

Well, he was for Reagan in 80, 84, and ironically bush in 88. There may have been some behind the scenes deals to force him into the running in 92, smoke-filled rooms, etc. IMHO.
