If there was no assassination attempt on Kennedy, and he had lived. Lets say he narrowly defeats Hubert Humphrey at the democratic national convention. Kennedy picks George Smathers to be his running mate. The republican contest happens exactly as it did in real life.

In a Kennedy/Smathers vs Nixon/Agnew election, what states does Kennedy look to in order to get 270 electoral votes? How would he get to the presidency according to the electoral map?

Alaska for Deukmjican and South Dakota going for Bradley. Four states remain. Ohio and South Dakota big news of the hour. Dems hold Montana senate seat.

Duekmjican: 257
Bradley: 194
Paul: 0

So, the Dems are divided and Nixon can portray Bobby as some sort of Hippie Radical. See 1972 in real life.

I appreciate the feedback with the electoral maps being posted. I kind of only meant for it to be Kennedy vs Nixon, but to include Wallace is fine.

I think some of the states that are mostly debated in this scenario are Texas, the west coast, Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, New Jersey, Arkansas (especially in a two way race), and Florida.

I also believe that a Bobby Kennedy 1968 nomination would make the truth about the Johnson-Kennedy family relationship come out. Did Johnson just want to be gone from the White House and help the Kennedy family, not just Bobby, but the Kennedy family get back to the White House because of what they lost? Or would Johnson truly do anything to stop Kennedy?
