I can't speak for people in the 'Heartland', but as somebody from New England, the West Coast, and/or Chicagoland, in my experience if you ask somebody what they are, they'll ask for clarification as to what in the world you're talking about.

Allow me to be a representative of flyover country. I have never in my life heard somebody ask another person "what are you?" We are all, of course, people. Children are frequently asked "What do you want to be when you grow up?" And maybe having heard that, a non-native speaker of English could construct the first sentence, but I doubt it. Adults making their introductions may ask each other "What do you do?" But then, of course, one would say accountant or whatever, and not Christian. It's extremely impolite to ask somebody what religion he is (you may as well ask a stranger how much money he earns), but a nosey neighbor type may occassionally try to discern this piece of information by inquiring what church one attends.

What on Earth have you been smoking Reaganfan? America wasn't founded on God, and the Republicans aren't going to get "the government" out of the equation. The Republicans only hate the government when it threatens to take a few more percent tax. When it comes to arresting weed smokers, the government is apparently acting as it should.

If you hate the state so much, become a libertarian and quit with this hypocrisy.

Conservatives: we believe in individualism, but if you're a queer, we'll put you away in order to protect the society.

Yeah. It's exactly the same here (although 'do you go to church?' would precede 'what church do you go to?', since the proportion of non-Christians is slightly but significantly higher than in the rest of the country, excepting the northern Mountain states and Pacific Northwest and Hawaii). I really don't think this changes based on proximity to a shoreline. I think it changes based on proximity to the interior of Naso's head.

Naso has a number of legendary threads from as far as 7 years ago that outdo "Update."

The lives of literally billions of people (e.g. India and China) have been dramatically bettered in the past generation or two. The list of nation joining the market economy in reasonably prosperous shape during that period is long. The implicit over-broad generalization that the US is almost transcendentally uniquely benign, implying among other things that say the bulk of the governments in Western Europe have not improved the lot of their citizens, or in fact have made them worse, is odd, since its standard of living is comparable to the US, despite the over-arching and apparently universally true alleged deadening hand of "big government."

So the assumptions on which the essay was premised, but not argued or defended (perhaps in part due to being deflected by the rather profligate indulgence in some rather shop worn and tired cliches), are, to be polite, open to debate.

So says this particular RINO in his opinion. Cheers.

Oh, those are two threads. I was expecting some climactic post. 335 pages? No way this trumps that.

I'm sorry, but that's really a TL;DR. Can you explain what happens?

There was another part that I made but deleted (to drop BushOK's post count because he kept bragging about being over 10k), however I did in fact save a PDF copy of it beforehand. PM me if you want it.

Actually you don't even need to PM me: http://www.mediafire.com/?9gyra4jetqt1957

This fills in the bit between he first locked that thread and reopened it.

Government and higher-ups...must stay out of the lives of the American people. Don't tell us what doctor to go to, don't take the money we earn, don't tell us what we can feed our children in school lunches. MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. President Ronald Reagan said, "I don't believe in a government that protects us from ourselves." Agreed, Mr. President.

The business of Government is NOT to control the American people. It's the job of the American people and the entrepreneurial spirit to help America run.

Please note: this doesn't apply to you if you're gay or if you're a woman needing an abortion. Also, if you're a minority, it probably doesn't apply either.

Yeah, it's kind of like Lost in that sense. But start out with the thread realisticidealist labeled "interquel" and you'll be hooked.

Why was the other thread deleted ? Some mods really lack any sense of humour.

No the mods did not delete it. I deleted the portion of it I started myself to knock BushOK off his "OMG I have over 10k posts!" horse back when he was bragging about that. The PDF saved of it is available for download up there.
