I hope it's not anything too serious. Best wishes.

You know just yesterday I was going to start a thread on cyberchondria
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberchondria

Oh my god, I've just read that whole article, and I think I might suffer from that. Sad  What should I do??

I hope you're fine, but really, internet self-diagnosis? That's like the absolute worst thing you can do.

Meh, I live in a country with decidedly un-socialist medicine and it still took me two months to get an appointment with a dermatologist for a routine check-up.

Having parent(s) and/or sibling(s) who are doctors dramatically expedites the process, as they can refer you to their colleagues and call in prescriptions with basically 24 hours notice (with the usual weekend and holiday exceptions). I'm sure the same concept of connections helping people out is true in Canada, Austria, Sweden, South Africa, and Tuvalu.

Could it be a sinus infection?  Do your teeth "itch"? (Top teeth)

Yeah, I hope it's nothing bad.

I'll call the neurologist tomorrow to get an appointment and let you know what comes out of it.

But thanks to the Austrian "SOCIALIST MEDICINE" I'll probably have to wait 2 months for an appointment. That's what it takes when you have only 2 neurologists in a county of 100.000 people ... Tongue
Seriously... there are a million things it could be that are far less serious.  More often than not, it is a combination of smaller things that are non-life threatening that lead to symptoms similar to something much worse.  Like a sinus infection coupled with some kind of stress.... or something as simple as a change in lighting or environment that is bothering you and causing migraines.

EDIT:  The cold that Europe experienced the past few weeks could be the culprit... dry air associated with such weather can cause sinus/headache problems.

Are there shortages of dermatologists in the D.C. area?
There's an artificial shortage of just about every specialist in just about every city.

As a hypochondriac myself, never self-diagnose, and what is wrong with you (if there's ever anything wrong with you to begin with) is almost never ever ever as bad as you fear it is.

Another possibility could be the beginning of a Multiple Sclerosis ... Sad

a)STOP looking up symptoms...

b) go to the doctor to get it checked out...

There are plenty of things that have what you're suggesting, that are uncomfortable (as a migraine sufferer... I can attest) but not life-threatening.

^^^^^^^^

Also, I'm no expert on the Austrian medical system but I'm pretty sure it'd be better to go to your normal doctor first rather than trying to get an appointment directly with a neurologist; if it's something not so bad then you can find out right away and stop worrying, and on the off-chance that it is something dangerous I'm pretty sure they'd give you an emergency referral or something so you could see specialists right away rather than waiting the really long time you otherwise would.

Take it seriously, do get it checked out.  Don't underestimate, but don't overestimate it, either.  Do the responsible thing and see your PCP first and then if he refers you to a specialist, fine.  If he doesn't and the initial diagnosis doesn't make sense or is a little vague, then seek a second opinion.  Stay off the internet for self-diagnosis, just look at it for information what it COULD be, not necessarily what it ACTUALLY is.  An informed patient is a smart patient and gives you a way to communicate with your doctor with knowledge of your own, just don't become too worked up over anything on the Internet.

I have experience in what I'm saying, as well.  For the past two or three years, I have been shaking quite often and I looked up the symptoms on WebMD or the Mayo Clinic website, and came up with a myriad of things it could be from diabetes to Parkinson's Disease.  Come to find out last year after two diabetes tests that both came back negative, my doctor diagnosed it as a less-debilitating Benign Essential Tremor.  B.E.T. is just a cousin to Parkinson's Disease and can be debilitating on its own, but it's less invasive and less hard on the joints, ligaments, and cartilage as Parkinsons.  Basically, B.E.T. is a difficult nuisance, but harmless.

The WORST thing to do is go online and look at symptoms. Paranoia, nerves, hypochondria. All are made worse by looking at "symptoms".

This weekend I felt really off. Unusually tired. Then I realized I was A. Doing a large amount of work, and B. Waking up very early (I usually wake up late morning work at night, but have been waking up around 7am or so).

Also, EVERYONE is feeling off. Pain around my jaw, teeth, sinus congestion. I notice that if I feel off balance, often times one or both of my nostrils is clogged, indicating sinus congestion. Sometimes your ears will pop, your equilibrium will be off, ect. Atleast three other people at work have felt the same way.

I remember having a sinus headache back in the Summer of 2007 and fearing the same thing after googling symptoms. I also remember being paranoid that I had lead poisoning because I saw a blue line on my arm. Just as I began to panic, I realized the blue line was nothing more than the line from the crease where my elbow bends. It's laughable, but hypochondria occurs often.

The joke within my household is that the Soviets used something on us that made many Americans of younger generations suddenly suffer from anxiety and hypochondria. Cheesy

PLEASE, visit a good doctor. Tell him how you're feeling, and that you're really afraid it could be a brain tumor. I'm sure he will confirm or deny it, but seriously (clinical tests).

I hope it's nothing serious Wink

Appointment with the neurologist next week. But I now think it could rather be some kind of severe infection and I'll take a ton of medicine right now and the fever symptoms have gotten better a bit. But there's still this pressure in my forehead that won't go away and that diziness. Maybe my optic nerve is infected or something like this, I've got no clue, but it suxx ... Tongue

Oh, mate. I hope it's not. I hope it's nothing serious. I'm glad you're going to see the neurologist and I hope he's able to give you the all clear.

Yeah, I hope it's just a weird form of sinusitis and it will go away soon.

Symptoms have gotten much better now, will probably skip the neurologist.

Was probably really just the cold and a crazy infection.

More than being glad.. I'm relaxed after hearing that. I don't really know you, but I'm a person who stresses about almost everything... so it's comforting to read that Wink

This.

But next time something like that happens, try to be more prudent in self-diagnosis. Wink
