It's not even worth making fun of this anymore. I think people didn't want to hear about him ever again.

At this point, why not leaving him alone?
Most people think he is a rapist, anyways and his repute and career are destroyed.
Which is probably harder for him than any fine or any prison term.

I must say, French Socialists should be grateful to the NYC police department. Imagine, this happening when he's already won the primary, so close to the election.

What a bizarre statement. One can still enjoy life in one's old age.
But the interesting thing about this story is this - since when did France become as prudish as the Bad Place?

Because, if he's guilty, he should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law regardless of being already a political dead man.

...since when did France become as prudish as the Bad Place?
Euh...this affair is about an eventual procuring system eventually involving several officials and high business men, in which some kind of corruption, eventually from DSK if I understood correctly but to be honest I'm not sure anyone precisely got what's going on, could be involved.
And, not being prudish doesn't necessarily mean having lost standards, when we hear (and it's been hard to escape it in the news but thankfully it's going lower and lower) about all the stuffs that could have been going on around DSK glorious life, there is a kind of
sordid
smell around all of this. It's not my business what DSK or anybody can do of his life, but heck I don't want to be thrown this in the face each time I try to collect what's going on in the world.
Elegance and prudishery aren't necessarily the same.
That being said, it's not new that laws about prostitution in France are some of the less easy ones, and this in part due to the passage of Sarkozy in interior Ministry since 2002.

NYC police department? They can be 'grateful' to DSK having lost control before having eventually won primaries rather, no matter the police would have arrested him or not. The only fact Nafissatou Diallo would have complained would have owned DSK, regardless he would have been back in France. Imagine running in primaries for
Presidency
with an accusation of rape and not facing it??
So, given all this glorious DSK life, yeah, PS can thank that something happened before the primaries, because if all this sordid affair in Lille was being dug out with DSK already candidate, either you could consider the election was already lost (which you can kinda already consider anyhow with the cutie we have now instead), or PS would have needed to change its candidate, and it was also one more step to the defeat yeah. The problem of PS is not a problem of a man, it's of a whole generation, crippled in so many dimensions.

Well, I didn't know moral standards varied according to the age, or according to the fact to be married or not, moreover, nothing says he didn't start all of this early.
. DSK behavior wasn't much secrete for a while now, but since there had never been something that had hurt anyone till now outside of some rumors then it all belonged to its personal life, he was seen as a big kinda heavy flirty guy before. I've been glad to see that French press defended itself for not having spread such or such rumor all over before, unlike the Anglo tradition, when all of this had been blast all over. Spreading sexual rumors about politicians and nasty tabloids are not part of the culture here.
Amusingly it would precisely be an excess of prudishery that produces an excess of inelegance...
So, the world media also still publish every DSK breath?? Oh dear...

Yeah, this is pretty disgusting. There have been talks recently about penalizing clients though, and it might become law in the upcoming years.

Brothels actually were legal in France up until 1946 and the "Loi Marthe Richard" that banned them (I learnt about this one, from oddly enough, the first James Bond novel. IIRC, 007 lost his virginity to a French prostitute).

Yeah, laws about that are almost insane, technically if you live with a prostitute, you can be considered a pimp. And iirc, some courts even judged people in this sense.

You know the proverb. Than it is "le plus vieux métier du monde". Prostitution always existed and will probably always exist.
Consdering that, I consider it is better to legalize and control prostitution. That way, we can insure than the profits of it goes to the persons and not to fund criminal activities, we can try to protect them with them being afraid of police, we can tax it and control STDs.
Trying to ban it isn't working and cost millions to State each year. It's like the War on Drugs, it is a fight we can't win.
