I can't speak for other boards, but if you wanted to post that on my board, I'd allow it (although I greatly question the accuracy of that statement).  The difference between that and what you posted is that's an objective observation as part of a discussion.  Your statement was an inappropriate joke about the way you think a story should be.

So speech about controversial topics is allowed only when it is in a 'serious tone'?  Inks, your drive to make this forum deadly dull and free of all wit and humor is a great success!

It's inappropriate to joke about having sex with a 16-year-old.  Sorry, but that's my rule.  If you don't like it, don't post on the Forum Community board.

even though it's legal to have sex with sixteen year olds in a few dozen states and God knows how many countries.  you're a pruded up fool, dude.

The age of consent is 16 in the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia

So now joking about something that is legal in a majority of the country (not to mention all of Europe basically) is verboten because of the personal views of a moderator. What the hell?

Leave him alone, inks. It's not like there's anywhere else on the internet he can post about fantasies with 16 year old girls.

I'm baffled by this as well, but I don't understand anything about the moderating system at this point. I have a weird passing interest in trying to figure it out, but at this point I mostly just be smart and stay out of it's way.

It's issues like this that really hammer home the sort of contradictory nature of the moderating system though. Enforcement decisions are either made on a very literal basis (Mikado just blindly citing the terms of service and saying nothing else) or made based on the personal prudishness of a moderator who finds something distasteful despite being legal in most places.

Level of enforcement is always going to be uneven between the moderators but expecting what you enforce to be uniform across the different boards is not an unfair expectation. This is a weird thing to suddenly hit a nerve in me about the moderating system I guess, but there are certain things that are just ridiculous and this is certainly one of them. There is absolutely no legitimate terms-of-service based explanation for why that was deleted.

Inks, you've started to abuse your powers and infract people based on your own personal judgements rather than the actual forum terms of service and rules. This is seriously getting ridiculous now. You should resign your post if you're going to force your own morals on everyone else otherwise.

The prudes always seem to get worked up when it comes to sex and young adults/teenagers. It reminds me of the states where the age of consent is 16/17 but having sexual/nude pictures of anybody under 18 is treated as child pornography so you can get thrown in jail and put on sex offender registry lists for having pictures of someone you're legally able to have sex with.

Makes perfect sense.

Careful. I received death points for making a similar point.

Not defending or disagreeing with Inks, but an academic resource such as the Atlas is a pretty inappropriate place to discuss banging 16-year-olds, legal or not.

Eh.
Are you suggesting that we also get rid of all of Off-Topic and most of Forum Community? Because they have nothing to do with elections either.

This is a very valid point.

I think Inks is well-meaned in trying to enforce ToS, as he was appointed to, but I think he may be taking it little too far.

Sounds like a thinly veiled threat.  What's going to happen to those who question your regime?

Laughable: you're just banding together, defending the incompetent prude's obvious error.  You can't surely believe what you're saying, can you?

There's a difference between talking about things that are off topic like sports and movies, and discussing things such as off topic such as "screwing 16-year-olds," an act that is not legal everywhere. It sets off a lot of alarm bells to a school administrator reviewing our site.

Right, which is why such topics aren't discussed on the main site. This is the Atlas Forum, complete with Forum Community and Off-Topic boards, where you really can't claim this forum is an academic resource. I would love to see one of The Professor's students cite Politico or Opebo in a research paper.

Drinking alcohol and/or smoking marijuana is not legal everywhere, and we occasionally have people talking about it.

Just what do they think their students are talking about at lunch, then? Not screwing sixteen year olds?

I'm not necessarily saying that the act should be banned. I'm saying that you should all be adult enough to know that it's not appropriate to do.

And I'm hoping you're adult enough to understand why someone would freak out over a discussion over sex with 16 year olds but would be okay with a thread of adults discussing cocktails.

So, we can't talk about drinking anymore, because it's illegal in Saudi Arabia (and, therefore, not legal everywhere)?

No... the point wasn't we can't talk about non-election stuff, but shouldn't talk about stuff that would  raise red flags in schools.
