Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you to the IDS, and thank you to my fellow Arkansans!

About a month ago, I ran for the office of IDS legislature.  We were a few votes short of victory, but tonight we did it.

I am very humbled and honored with the privilege you have given me tonight.  I am ready to go to work and to serve the people of the South for the next two months.

There are many challenges that our region faces.  People are still looking for work, our wiki is out of date, and we have witnessed a great imbalance between competition and cooperation.  Too often do we see highly valued members of our society engage in spiteful discourse with one another, and as we witness this we forget what this game is all about: spirited debates, clean election campaigns, and most importantly, having fun.

Tonight I speak to you promising not what I hope to achieve over the next four months, or six months, or eight months, but rather what I will work for during the next session.  I will spend the short two months I have in my term putting the IDS before personal ambitions and selfish gain.  Together we will balance our checkbooks, improve living standards for the middle class and those who are in poverty, work to further improve our education system, and ultimately prove that government can work when the people come first.

It was an honor to be welcomed to my new Memphis office by staffers and colleagues.

Tonight we briefly discussed the recently proposed Public Bank Act.  I proposed this bill as it would authorize our government to maintain and oversee a more efficient monetary system that can aid private sector growth and ensure that IDS dollars are invested properly.  This mimics a system that was originally implemented by the US state of North Dakota, which has averted the financial crisis that toppled much of the American economy in the fall of 2008.

I plan to further discuss the dynamics of this legislation once it reaches the floor, though I am happy to take questions and suggestions from constituents beforehand.
