This is actually one case where I think the original position was the false one.  The congressional GOP did some serious whip-cracking with regards to the wars, and not supporting/ceasing to support them would result in not getting any aid from the RNC or NRCC.  He did donate $500 to Ron Paul '08, after all.

Could hurt the GOP nominee in Virginia in a close race, right ?

If he gets the CP nomination and ballot access, although I don't think he's that well-known outside his old district.
