Well, there's your answer then: they're not real Democrats.

Ugh.

Anyone who is a registered Democrat is a Democrat. They have libertarian leans - they are more socially libertarian that economically liberal.

Bayh obviously wins big. The map:

The electoral vote is 358-180.

Kind of a dumb question but....  Is there anyone who can beat Bayh in 2008?  Every map I see with they guy on it seems like gold for the Democrats.

He is. And to answer your question, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani would stand a chance. The former is not exactly well enough to campaign, while the latter is plagued by moral scandals, though.

I doubt it. Karl Rove is good, but not Bayh-beating good.

What exactly is Bayh going to run on? The fact that he's from Indiana? In a presidential election, he's just another Democrat taking the same positions as any other Democrat.

So what you're saying is that I'm the same as Bayh politicially?

I haven't seen you take any extreme political positions. The only weird stuff you post are things like "Ohio was stolen" and "Bush is trying to spread rape genes."

He received 300,000 more votes in Indiana than Bush so he must be doing something right.  Besides the fact his farther was big in Indiana.  He must have somethinga about him that attracts moderates and even conservatives.

Bayh could lose to a conservative if the far left runs their own candidate who is not Nader (too much bad blood from 2000.)  Vote splitting can kill even good candidates.

To beat Bayh the Rpublicans would have to go more centrist.  If they took anyone from the political center it would be a tight race.  Oddly enough a centrist v. centrist race could come down to the VP.  If Bayh took a liberal to keep party unity and faced a conservative VP Bayh might be at a disadvantage.

Center v. Center races are exceedingly rare and always interesting.

Bush got 70% of the vote in Texas when he ran for Governor in 1998. He got 60% in running for President in 2000.

State success doesn't always carry over to the presidential level.

Would you (or any other Republicans) consider voting for Bayh?

If the Republicans ran Alan Keyes, I would consider voting Libertarian. Unless it was close (yeah, right). Then I'd vote Bayh.

In other words you vote for your party regardless of the candidates.  Would you vote for Zell Miller?

Depends on the candidate.  Against Giulianni or Dole, no, I would not.  Against a Buchannan type, I most likely would.

It would also depend on where we are in 4 years.  What laws are passed and how the Supreme Court goes in the next 4.

Bayh loses 10% in Indiana and he still kicks butt.

And if you think he takes the same positions as other Democrats, I can't really help you.

It depends who the opposition is.

One thing that you really have not considered is if Bayh can get the nomination.

To be honest I dont know if he can get the nomination.  I think if he is one of the only moderates in the primaries he can.  But if you have 3 or 4 moderates like Bayh, Warner, and Hillary running for the nomination.  They will split the moderate vote and someone like Fiengold will sneak in the back door and run away with it.

I know, I know.  Shes not a moderate but, she is sneaking closer and closer towards the middle.  I bet  you do want her.  I dont see how she can beat any Republican candidate.  She would be a disaster for the Democratic party.
