Round 30

Barcelona, Spain
Berlin, Germany
Paris, France
Sydney, Australia

As with diving judges, you must give a score out of ten to each city remaining. You must explain your reasons for any deductions or additions to a baseline of 5. The minimum score between all 4 is 15, and the maximum is 35. The two best scores will face off in the gold medal match, the other two shall fight for the bronze.

I'm going to do mine based on five categories: Arts, Music and History; Economic and Political importance; Sports and Olympic Heritage; Crime, Security, Transport  and Infrastructure; and Weather and Natural Beauty. I was hoping to do it after other had voted so you wouldn't steal my way of doing it, but seeing the stunning lack of involvement... steal away.

Arts, Music and History

0.5 points: Sydney. Whilst it does have an interesting history, it-s also a very, very short one compared to the others. Unlike the three Europeans, Sydney also fails to be the most culturally engaging place in it's own country.

1.0 points: Barcelona. A few painters and some interesting architecture mean that Barcelona can compete with Paris and Berlin, but not quite win, due to a relatively sedate history.

1.5 points: Paris. One of the great artistic cities, and with a fascinating city, Paris could only come second to one or two cities in the world.

2.0 points: Berlin. The focal point of almost all 20th century history, with a thriving artistic and musical life, Berlin is one of the world's true cultural capitals.

Economic and Political importance

0.5 points: Barcelona. Not unimportant, but not in the same league as the rest.

1.0 points: Sydney.

1.5 points: Berlin. Not as economically important to Germany as Paris is to France, and no more important federally than Sydney is, politically.

2.0 points: Paris. In one of the earliest, most convincingly, centralised nations, The French capital is the pulse of the country's economic and political systems.

Sports and Olympic Heritage

0.5 Points: Berlin. Nazis.

1.0 points: Paris. The biggest stadium isn't all that big, the sports teams aren't all that good...Paris is not a sporting city, and has almost nothing left from it's Olympic days.

1.5 points: Barcelona. Hugely revitalised by the games, the olympic legacy is strong here, even if there are a few white elephants hanging around. A worls/leading football club and a series of world championship/level events mean Barcelona is on the sporting map.

2.0 points: Sydney. Sports are big here, probably bigger than in Barcelona, and the games were declared as the best ever by a Spaniard.Sure, it's no Melbourne, but Sydney is the best of this bunch in this category.

Crime, Security, Transport and Infrastructure

0.5 points: Barcelona. Only because I know nothing about it in any of these categories, other than it's got more petty theft than the others.

1.0 points: Sydney. It's pretty abysmal in terms of transport, pretty good in terms of crime and security, and no better or worse than the others for Infrastructure.

1.5 points: Berlin. Seems like a pretty well/run town.

2.0 points: Paris. Certainly far from perfect, and this category I suspect is the most open for differences of opinion, but someone needs to get the top score, and why not Paris...

Weather and Natural Beauty

0.5 points: Berlin. I'm sure it's lovely in summer, but with those winters...

1.0 points: Paris. Not much better, but everyone raves about Paris in spring, so I'll bump it up.

1.5 points: Barcelona. Possibly better weather than Sydney, and set in a beautiful position.

2.0 points: Sydney. But nothing can compare to Sydney Harbour on a bright, sunny day. Possibly the most beautiful urban landscape out there.

My Totals:

Paris 7.5
Sydney 6.5
Berlin 6.0
Barcelona 5.0

BCN

I think nobody (myself included) wanted to explain their vote... I think it's unfair to finish the round with your own vote, hughento. Don't you think you should make 'round 30' again? I mean, it's your Survivor, you decide, but it'd be fairer.

I agreed with Hughento rating, but was too busy to explain my vote (French elections, ya know Wink).
So, it already doubles Hughento's score Wink

Well, I think he talked too much about the characteristics of each city, but didn't talk about the Olympic Games. You can consider BCN a 'not so good' city for the Olympic Games, but it turned out to be oneof the best Olympic Games ever, don't you agree?

You may think I'm saying that because I'm Spanish. But keep in mind I'm from Madrid. It's really difficult for a madrileño to say anything good about BCN.

In fact, Hughento said in the OP that it wasn't about Olympics, but about cities.
Of course, Barcelona 1992 was the best Olympics ever Smiley
