ISR-Dahaf Institute: Obama slightly ahead in the crucial swing state of Israel

Despite persistent accusations by Republican critics of being insufficiently committed to Israel's security, Jewish Israelis back President Obama over his Republican rivals.
Obama leads Rick Santorum among Israeli Jews 34 percent to 21 percent, according to a new poll from the Dahaf Institute. The president leads Mitt Romney 32 percent to 29 percent, and he leads former House Speaker Newt Gingrich 31 percent to 27 percent.
“The Israeli public is neither enthusiastic about the prospect of war with Iran nor swayed by the seeming embrace of Israel by our presidential candidates,” Shibley Telhami, a University of Maryland professor who conducted the survey, told the Jerusalem Post.

For the record, Israel has about 14 electoral votes.

Republicans don't talk about their support of Israel to appeal to Israelis.

Not nearly as much as he'll raise from it...

President Obama has been rough on terrorists. Osama bin Laden killed a few hundred Jews on 9/11.

And for what other reason than the Jewish Lobby does the preference of Israel matter in regards to the election?

This is actually a rather annoying, though extremely widespread, misconception: the depth of U.S. support for Israel is not primarily due to the importance of the "Jewish Lobby" or Jewish pressure groups. These days it has far more to do with support for Israel among Evangelicals who see it as the key to Christ's return and the fulfillment of End Times Prophecies. Islamophobia and anti-Arab racism (rather than specific support for Jews or Israelis) are major factors as well.

It's a combination of both;
Republicans
mainly support Israel for the evangelicals (as well as the Sheldon Adelsons of the world), but Democrats, whom evangelicals won't vote for anyway, mainly support Israel because of the Israeli/"Jewish" lobby.

Obama has to win this state to have a chance... If he doesn't carry Israel, he's doomed.

Don't be crazy, Israel would never be a state! Then they'd only get 2 senators.

In terms of support of Israel to a greater extent than any comparable non-Israel nation (which is to an extent, possibly not quite as great as current policy but definitely to at least a moderate extent, desirable even to non-Jews in a realpolitik sense because of the nature of the Middle East and Israel's position within it), Jews are sitting pretty with any of the candidates.

So, Israel would divide in 3 states in order to have 6 senators + 12 (or something like that) that they already have
