The AFDNC is considering a name change. Does anyone have any ideas. Don't use Liberal or Progressive, they have been ruled out.

Given that Progressive was in fact just stolen from Theodore Roosevelt, how about something from US history:

First one that comes to mind is Free Soil which IIRC was an offshoot of the Democrats that housed Van Buren's run after he left the Presidency.

I don't know about the Whigs of America but the Democrats here are nothing like the Whigs of British politics who were strong advocates of free trade and right wing economic policy while being moderate on social issues.

My suggestion would be to go on www.electionworld.com and look at the names of other Liberal/Social-Democrat/Labour parties around the world.

I dont think any of our current parties support extension of slavery to the territories....

Is it easier for you to paint as extreme?

EDIT: You may want to check out the names of the member parties of Liberal International and Socialist International.

A bit close to the Progressives, but a good name for a leftist party.
