Yeah, but it's tiny and not a protected minority. It probably literally never entered the mind of anybody concerned. It also has boundaries that are neither legally defined nor as clearcut as Inwood's.

wrong there was an Orthodox submitted plan that specifically asked for this.
the fact that jews are not a protected minority, but also the minority that has the most hates crimes against them per capita is completely ludicrous, because we're the minority that gets bashed the most by both sides.
Just for the record Blacks were given the right to vote in all states before the last state (New Hampshire) allowed Jews to vote in 1887.

That is some extraordinarily bad history. How many African-Americans had the right to vote in Mississippi between 1890 and 1965?

I said given the right to vote I didn't say there wasn't other methods use to impede their right but they still had the right.
and don't read this as a justification for Jim Crow.

I don't have numbers for Mississippi but Louisiana had slightly less then 1000 in 1904 but that would have been 1000 more then Jews had in those states. (my point wasn't that blacks weren't disenfranchised but frankly many groups were and are disenfranchised)

The lack of the right to vote and Jim Crow were almost the same thing. Saying that blacks had the right to vote is only right on a technicality.

my point wasn't to justify Jim Crow my point was to show that Jews in this country have had impediments to voting that in
some
ways surpass blacks.

The rights position of Jews in America has, in nearly every place and every time, been far better than that for African Americans.

There may be occasional exceptions - the number of Jews or AA living in NH at the time was sure infinitesimal. Can you link to the story that Jews were unable to vote in NH prior to 1887? I can't find it. Thanks.

first of all it seems I made a typo and it was 1877

As late as 1790, one year before adoption of the Bill of Rights, several
states had religious tests for holding public office, and Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and
South Carolina still maintained established churches. Between 1789 and 1792, Delaware, Pennsylvania, South Carolina,
and Georgia eliminated barriers that prevented Jews from voting, but it took longer in Rhode Island (1842), North
Carolina (1868), and New Hampshire (1877).

Thanks. The first said "eliminated barriers that restricted Jews from voting", the latter said "restricted Jewish right." Would you know if those we categorical bans on Jews voting or were they obstructions? Not that obstructions aren't relevant, but if we're making a comparison with Jim Crow, which was all about obstructions that added up to a virtual ban, it is relevant.
The obstructions could have been a requirement to swear an oath on a Christian Bible, or it could have been an unobserved restriction on holding office. I don't believe there was a public record of religion like there was of race.

Yes it felt weird, but I went back 6 pages to the time the maps were released, and found nothing else that felt like it should be split. I know there was a stretch when there was general chatter before the maps came out. If the principals in that debate want it separated and added here, I'm happy to oblige.

I don't care, I was just sutartled to see I apparently started a thread of that title at some time in the past that somebody had felt to bump.
