Didn't Reagan do this too, in 1976, naming Dick Schwieker as his running mate at the convention to try to make a last-minute upset of Ford?

Yeah. The difference? It was at the convention.

During the convention, and it cost him some support, ironically.

Despite his campaign, I don't understand why Perry would be a horrible pick. But I doubt that he'd care for the Vice Presidency.

Perry is a gaffe machine who can't debate. He's visibly uncomfortable on the campaign trail and possesses extreme political views which he doesn't have the intellectual weight to defend. He would be even more disastrous than Palin.

Saw a Gingrich spokeswoman on Chuck Todd's show this morning, she talked up Perry and said the notion "transports voters into a future of a Gingrich administration"

First Gingrich was doing moon bases...now transporters and time travel!

I look forward to his proposal for Soylent Green

Being a Gingrich campaign surrogate has to be one of the funnest jobs ever.
