1. These Republican voters are obviously very white. The GOP is essentially the White People's Party in Alabama and Mississippi and the Democratic Party is effectively the Black People's Party in those two states -- an ugly situation. Think of the old Yugoslavia when you think of the South. The Serbs and Croats spoke essentially the same language but at least looked enough alike.

2. Protestant fundamentalism is very strong in the South. As the "ultimate, exotic, ultra-liberal, intellectual" Democrat President Obama may seem the Antichrist to many southern white people. So he must be part of the Ultimate Danger by creed. Forty years ago that creed would have been Marxism-Leninism. But Marxism-Leninism is now dead as a threat to the US; President Obama must be a Muslim.

3. These two states have horrible records in education. I can only imagine the high-school dropout rate.
