Poll
Question: Why did Romney lose AL and MS?
These just aren't the states for him.  But he'll win the nomination!  Mark my words!!   -45 (65.2%)
Low turnout, but that's just a one-time slip of course!  Still gonna win!   -1 (1.4%)
Does it even matter?  Most upcoming states are solid ROMNEY territory.   -6 (8.7%)
Voter fraud!  I demand a revote!   -6 (8.7%)
Rick clearly outspent- wait.  Okay, that's not true.  But my point still stands that Romney will WIN!!!   -4 (5.8%)
If he hadn't made that dang 'grits' comment, this would've all been his!   -7 (10.1%)

They just aren't his type of Republicans. This happened to Obama and McCain in 2008.

Option #1, clearly the people in the south are too socially conservative.  Not that it matters, Romney will win regardless, and they will have no choice but to back him as the nominee.

McCain won MS, Romney did not.

Santorum needs one more state to exceed Romney's total vs McCain at 11.

Santorum is running a stronger campaign now than Romney ran against Mccain.

Pretty conservative states.

MO, however, might give delegates to Santorum, and that isn't overly conservative.

Or they could do what their parents/grandparents did in the Dixiecrat days and go George Wallace on his ass and split their party's vote.

McCain was running against no one but Paul in MS. The primary was over.

The Republicans in MO are pretty conservative.

The fact that Romney almost won Mississippi and Alabama is something else. It would be like Santorum or Gingrich almost winning Massachusetts and Vermont. If you had told me two weeks ago it would be this close, I would have taken it.

Romney doing worse than expected and getting 3rd place in those two states while Santorum doing better than expected and getting first place are not the biggest embarassment of the night for Romney. Romney barely leading in Hawaii is.

A large amount of Honolulu County was still being counted; just came in. He's 20 points ahead of Santorum right now (45-25).

I'm kind of surprised he didn't do better in Mississippi, what with his promise during the campaign there to defund Planned Parenthood, and all...

Seriously, is the guy who ran for Massachusetts governor and the guy running for president now really the same person?  Really?  I mean, really?

The fact that Romneybot can't win even the upper-class country club vote in MS and AL is laughable.

Because he took the foot off the gas and should have spent his time in MS instead of AL. Keep it to the floor until 1144 is reached- period. Plus turnout was far too low where he needed it, even if the county targets themselves were reached.

Negative Nancyism

No it's not negative nancyism. He isn't from the south and that hurts the same as if a southern candidate ran in the north. We also must add into account that he's not as conservative as Santorum which will continue to cost Romney in redder states such as AL and MS. Santorum has long been a champion for conservatism especially on social issues and that paid off last night. It wasn't negative nancyism.
