Senator Kerry frequently reminds us that President Bush has presided over the loss of more jobs than any president since Herbert Hoover, during whose administration the Great Depression began. President Bush likes to point out that the recession of 2001 began under his predecessor's watch and that the Bush legislative agenda, including tax cuts, is responsible for recent upward trends in selected economic indicators.
The President will no doubt continue to remind us of his rapid response to the Al Qaeda attacks and successful prosecution of the Afghan campaign. Meanwhile Senator Kerry attempts to make the case that the President exploited the occasion of 9-11-01 to finish his father's war against Saddam Hussein, alienating dozens of Asian and European governments in the process.
Which will be more important to voters this November, foreign policy or economic indicators? Or is neither of these issues likely to be the most important in 2004?
