And what percentage of the vote did he get? Exit polls don't show it as far as I'm aware.

According to CNN, Bush won 11% of the black vote in '04, and McCain won 4% of the black vote in '08.  It can therefore be deduced that Obama probably won most black Republicans.

It's plausible that many of Obama's improved numbers came from turning out a lot more Democratic and Independent blacks, along with ratcheting up even larger margins among them.

But in any case, I'm intrigued as to how black Republicans vote in any elections.

Anecdotally, the three black Republicans I know all voted for McCain.

I'd imagine that the small minority of Blacks who are registered Republicans would be quite firm in their Republicanism and that Obama's increased voter share came from larger turnout rather than swinging that group.

I want to know how they've voted in the 2012 primaries:

Who knows? Where are Black Republicans concentrated, anyways - the military officer corps? Blacks living in affluent lilywhite affluent suburbs? Obama did unusually well in the military in 2008. And in certain affluent suburbs too...

There was some black dude at a flea market who said he voted for Clinton, but that's about it. I'm not in the habit of asking "black folk" how they vote.

Herman Cain's wife voted for Obama, IIRC. And JC Watts said he might vote for Obama in 2008.

not being racist or annoying... is there any black, republican or democrat, in this forum?

J.C. Watts did consider Obama, but I believe he voted McCain.

I kinda wish I knew J.C. in real life, I feel like we'd agree on a lot.

I honestly think Obama won like 45%-50% of Black repubs. I actually know 3 black teenage republicans in my school.

In my experience:
-US Military NCO's
-business owners
-financial sector employees

edit: and, in the south anyway, they tend to live on the "white side" of town in mixed-race communities.

If we know the percentages of party affiliations and the percentages of the 2008 vote, it's easy to do some estimates.

Immigrants (from Africa) tend to be much more Republican than native-born blacks as well.

I have no doubt he won them, but that is a concentration of African Americans who appear to vote Republican locally.
