The more you know!

Fortunately for him, his status as a Mormon missionary kept him from the draft.  So instead of volunteering and putting on the uniform himself, he spent his days demonstrating for others to do so under government coercion.

Remind me again why we consider this piece of trash "moderate"?

Will this be the last presidential election in which we re-litigate the Vietnam War?  It's been an issue ever since GHW Bush picked Dan Quayle as his running mate in 1988.

Not if Biden ends up running in 2016. IIRC, once his student deferments ran out, he ended up being reclassified as unfit for the draft because he had asthma as a kid.

Let's say Code Pink decides to have a sit-in protest on my home street. I go to protest against Code Pink blocking our street with my neighbors. Am I now a pro-war protester? No,  I'm protesting against the disruption caused by a sit-in protest, a form of demonstration that is meant to block access to some place as a form of demonstration.

While in France, he also got into a fight with a couple Frenchies who opposed the Vietnam War. I alwasy found it ironic that his Dad ended up being the anti-war candidate, but the real irony is that while in France, he was ineligible for the draft.

You guys are disguisting.

Mitt Romney actually did serve his country while out of Vietnam, because he knew that one day, he'll display his greatness in politics.

Sending him to Vietnam would be like risking the life of Jesus himself.

Romney is a bit of a tool, yeah. Wasn't he demonstrating while his father was arguing against the Vietnam War?

So a bunch of people are going to have demonstrations for not an actual political cause, but against the methods of which other protestors use to carry out their message?  Okay.

Bizarre. Not that I'm entirely sure how relevant someone's teenage political activities (if any) are to whatever they get up to when older; though by 'not sure' I'm not dismissing all relevance at all...

This reminds me of when in 2007 Romney, while supporting the war in Iraq in his campaign for president, he explained why none of his sons were in the military, saying: "One of the ways my sons are showing support for our nation is helping me get elected because they think I'd be a great president."

I do think there is an interesting contrast here between Obama's protesting at Harvard and Romney's protesting at Stanford. Obama supported a professor who was fighting the school administration (for more diversity), while Romney was protesting in support of his school's administration (who were clamping down on anti-war protesters).

One was fighting the system for change, the other for the establishment and the status quo.

Well, it's easy to be for the draft when you're exempt. All males are supposed to be missionaries in the Mormon religion, although at the time they were supremely racist, and didn't allow non-whites to be missionaries until 1978.

So he supported his country stopping communism? I don't agree with the draft but there is no reason to name call. This is the left name calling when they are panicking. Have you looked into Obama's college years where he supported professor Derrick Bell? Or are you being bias?

Everyone knows he honored a well-respected college dean like Derrick Bell.  Does anyone who's not Andrew Breitbart care, however?  No.  Supporting the Vietnam War is bad enough, but supporting the draft to the point of protesting in favor of it while you're out dodging it goes beyond words.
