I vaguely remember reading about this, but think it is important to bring up since so many forum members claim Romney is a selfish man.

He rescues a young lady from dire consequences, next, he will rescue America from economic chaos.

If only he could have rescued that dog from the crate on top of his car.

No, this one is:  https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=150857.0

I think both of these really tell us nothing, except who wants to spout off.

Sounds more like recovering a runaway than "saving," but still it was a fairly nice thing to do.

JJ, We are both old enough to know that politics is a dirty and ridiculous business.  I don't know Mitt's draft records and imo we really need to get over that period in our history. Yet this shutting down the whole company for some teen rebellion is absurd. The thought of the Brooks Brothers Brigade with the briefcases and bloodhounds out is gutbusting. Is the WSJ really just printing garbage to normalize Mitt?

No, maybe not.  If you knew the lengths I've gone to to find people, you'd understand.  Wink

meanwhile Obama was working for ACORN. Also, not long after McCain was a prisoner of war, Obama was illegally selling drugs on the street.

Aye, I understand man. Ive known plenty of people who wound up toe tagged from drugs.  The earlier you start, the worse the problem in the long run. Parents worried and chasing down their kids is common- too common. However, the use of someones youthful mistakes to have candidate mitt swoop in is bad journalism.

What exactly are you saying? Drug users are victims of drugs so I think I agree with you.

I don't doubt any of the candidates (including Obama) would've done the same...

This incident happened 2 years after Romney began his political career.  We see fairly clearly in the 2012 race that Romney the politician has attempted to learn from his failure the preceding loss and shore up his weaknesses. It's likely Romney was eying an upcoming run for governor when this happened and thought of similarly, adjusting from his past mistakes.  In his 1994 race 2 years prior, Ted Kennedy had hurt Romney with attack ads showcasing him as a callous executive at Bain.  When this incident happened, Romney presumably understood, consciously or subconsciously, how he responded to it might well be discussed in a future political campaign.

Romney made this incident into an ad for his 2008 presidential campaign.  Romney is talking about it extensively.  His campaign tweeted and worked to promote the story today.  Romney may have been worried about his colleague's kid or he may have been worried about his next run.

I don't think the realistic rap on Romney is that he's some kind of psychopath...just that empathy is not his strong suit.

Let it never be said Romney doesn't care about the Gays.

Romney seems capable of sympathy on a personal level.  It's in terms of how he approaches politics where this isn't evident.

Yeah, it would have been better had Obama sold them legally.

I'm just saying that there seems to be alot of liberal bias against Romney simply because he's not in their party.

Girls in 1996 is yet another issue in which Romney disagrees vehemently with Herman Cain and, therefore, another mark against him as a candidate.

Yes, this article shows how good a friend Romney is to the Gays.

Uh, except it's not at all true that Obama ever sold drugs?
