Obviously it's one of the first two.  One could make decent arguments for Pol Pot or Mao.  I don't see how anybody else could make the cut.  I'm going to go with Stalin.

Hitler for starting the World War II. Hence, he had the worst and the biggest impact.

Of course, that doesn't make anyone else on this list more sympathetic.

When a certain degree of horribleness is reached, it becomes very hard to differentiate. It's like comparing two infinites. You know, like natural numbers and rational number. The latter are more numerous than the former, yet they're theoretically both the same number.

Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and Kim have all crossed the line.

Well, Hitler was worse than Pol Pot on one issue: Pol Pot didn't invade his neighbours.

At least Pol Pot killed intellectuals equally too!

Hitler gets the gold, Stalin gets silver, and Mao gets bronze.  The others are (dis-)honorable mentions.  Tongue

Hitler was bad, but he focused on other countries, and his doucheness was quarantined because of his need to focus on a multi-theatre world war.

Yeah, weird way of putting it!!

But Stalin and Pol Pot certainly killed a larger part of their own population than Hitler and Mao is responsible for the death of more Chinese than Hitler killed Germans. So seen from a homeland perspective Hitler is not no. 1. Guess that's his point.

Sure, which makes him less horrible, because he killed more worthless foreigners than his own Aryan people.

Better question: Least horrible. Regarding that list, of course.

Castro or Mussolini, depending on what aspects you're focusing on. Next tier would probably be...Ho Chi Minh and Franco, maybe? Franco's getting into the territory that Antonio described but I'm not well-versed in his reign enough to know whether or not he's quite there.

Yeah, Mussolini might get the prize. The Salo' era was pretty horrible, but fortunately it didn't last long.

It might be Ho Chi Min as well, I don't know much about how he ruled after his victory.

Make your own thread instead of hijacking mine:-)
Most horrible is interesting because of the different criteria you can apply.
Hitler was responsible for the highest number of deaths if you give him sole responsibility for WW2. Mao killed the highest number of his own people (if you include starvation), Pol Pot killed the highest percentage of his own population and ruined his country's economy and social structure. If you combine the two criteria of killing the highest share of your own population and the highest number of your own population Stalin wins. Stalin also probably had the largest longtime negative impact and imprisoned and forcibly relocated most people. But Hitler is the conventional choice as the personification of evil. I would say Stalin if you combine all factors and Pol Pot if you focus on the amount of evil a dictator caused relative to the resources he had at his disposal.

I think a case might be made for Kim Il-Sung regarding long-term impact. North Korea is a small country, but people have been starving for over 60 years because of him and his successors.

All of these are obviously despicable pieces of garbage, but I vote Hitler as the Spawn of Satan of the 20th century.

He started WW2, and he targeted and murdered specific groups of people through some of the most disturbing methods ever.

Stalin comes in 2nd, with Mao in third.

After that I don't know much, but  maybe Pol Pot in 4th?
