Romney gets GOP nomination. The conservatives are unwilling to support him and put a third party candidate into the general. Is there time to get names on the ballot in various states, or is it already too late?

Unfortunately for would-be candidates, the conservative states where such a candidate might garner significant support generally have very strict ballot access laws.

Tennessee's filing deadline is April 5th, Oklahoma's is April 20th, Arkansas' is May 1st, Arizona's is May 30th, Alaska's is June 1st, South Dakota's is June 5th; to be on the ballot in these states they'd need to be actively abandoning the GOP before Romney (potentially) has the nomination locked up. Many other states have a filing deadline during the summer, in between the last presidential primaries and the RNC, so a conservative ticket coming out of a brokered-convention-gone-bad wouldn't really be possible either. Also, a lot of southern states like OK, GA, AL, TX, NC have really tough signature requirements to get on the ballot as well.

They could always hijack the Americans Elect ballot line where they've gotten access, I guess, and maybe they could try to co-opt state Libertarian parties or something?
