TARP did save the US from a depression. The only problem is that the government didn't zero out the bank shareholders, so they got a subsidy that was unjustified. I would never vote for someone who said that they would have voted against TARP.  That person would be economically dangerous. So whatever the politics, Mittens is right on this one. Policy before politics is job one.
