Hi,

Let me introduce an election game I've been working on.

It is a multilayer online strategy election game, where your job is to help your candidate win the U.S. presidential election.

http://www.your-election-game.com

It is still a work in progress (and probably allways will be), but it has been fully functional from the start.

It is a two player game, where you make decisions for your candidate on how to raise money and where to spend it campaigning. Each turn you get the latest poll results and select actions what campaign actions your candidate will do and where.

At the end of the game it is election night and one candidate will celebrate.

I am always glad for any suggestions on what to do to make the game more interesting.

Right now I am working on improving the part where the actions are selected. Mostly setting up a field that will display what each action will cost, when the player chooses it.

I am also working on making it possible to delete multiple online message at once.

Future plans are to add events like debates. To set up fixed actions and costs like state campaign headquarters, so you do not have to select the same actions every turn.

I am also thinking over a game-design for a social election game like on Facebook.

Let me know what you think.

I signed up, but when I click on the confirmation link in the email, I get this message:

"Error!

Your registration could not be confirmed.
No unconfirmed user matches the username submitted."

My username is bjs123.

drats! This bug is frustrating. The confirmation should work if you copy the link into your browser. In HTML-Mails it gets messed up so sometimes a click on the link doesn't work.

To save you the trouble I have manually confirmed you and Charles Barton. You should be able to log in now.

If anyone else is having trouble registering just forward the confirmation e-mail to info@yourelection.net and I will confirm you manually.

OK I have found out why the confirmation is not working. It seems that clicking on the link calls the confirmation page without the user information. This of course is bound to fail. If you copy the link and paste it into your browser the confirmation should work.

The link isn't working for me, but I forwarded you the confirmation email.

Ok I've confirmed your registration. You should be able to login now.

@all interested: Just a reminder, until I fix the bug, please copy the link into your browser instead of clicking on it. The confirmation should work that way.

Thanks

Sorry I got really bogged down.

I did finally get out the new release of the game. More in this blog post

Good news for those following this thread (hopefully) is that the link in the confirmation mail should now work.

I am hoping to update the game now more frequently. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

I finally got a major feature done that I've been working on for quite a while. The game now has an in-game-forum or bulletin board. Finally players can communicate with each other.

Shame on me it took me until yesterday to get the number of elector in each state up-to-date.

Next up on my list of things to do is slightly change the candidate actions. It think it is a little tedious repeating action turn after turn especially when the candidates treasure chest is filled to the rim. I am looking for a way to have fixed costs. This would be things like state offices or staff.

The next major project is to develop an artificial intelligence so that players can also compete alone against the computer an not always have to wait for fellow players.

I had them in the very first alpha version of the game. They added enough complexity to the game that I put the idea on ice for the time being.

How would you like to see third party candidates in the game?

For those of you with a smart phone, I just updated the election game. It now has a smart phone friendly version. No extra URL. The game should notice its being shown on a mobile device and adjust itself.

Let me know what you think!

Hi, I just looked and there is one election to join at the moment.

In general, if you don't find an election to join create your own. We always need people to create elections.

Thanks

I forgot to mention it but I updated the game again last Monday. I made some minor improvements to the selection of campaign activities and added a line graph to show past poll result.

The next update should be finished by Sunday or at the latest the middle of next week.

Plans are to add information about the selected action (cost) to the state pop ups and to add a "cancel" button so that if you want to change your actions, you can.

Updated the game again to day. Added two new features:

1) Cancel button for actions (in case you change your mind)
2) Action information include the actual cost of an action

I am currently working on adding event to the game. This would mostly be candidates answering questions.

I could use some input:

1) How should the questions be?
  a) Questions about the party platform. Correct answers improve you poll numbers
  b) Questions about issues: Answers affect states poll numbers differently. Example strong conservative answers would help in conservative states and detract in liberal states.

2) I need some help finding questions. What questions would you like to see in the game?

Thanks for your help :-)
