Yes, the grand unified theory of smaller and more streamlined government, is just so much more popular than the actual practice thereof isn't it?  Mittens, this dog isn't going to hunt. Really.

Hey, px I beat you to it this time. Tongue

Anyone who honestly thinks the deficit would actually decrease under this man is well out of their mind.

I'm concerned he might increase government spending, especially in a department that starts with a d.

It's simple. He has promised to:
Cut taxes (and therefore revenue)
Increase Defense Spending
Balance the budget

...what is so hard to understand about all of that?

More money for the Domestic Policy Council?  Or do you mean the Drug Enforcement Agency?

He'll cut the National Endowment for the Arts. Because that, as you know, is such a ridiculously huge part of the federal budget.

Romney's refusal to say what he'd cut should make a good scary attack ad come fall.
Realistically, the only way the rest of his plan adds up is if he cuts Medicare and Social Security for current recipients, or basically eliminates everything the federal government does except for Medicare, Social Security and Defense.

He'll also cut:
1. Foreign Aid (this is 10% of our budget, right?)
2. Waste
3. Fraud
4. Abuse

To be fair, the average American does want lower taxes, higher spending and a balanced budget. He wouldn't be a very good panderer if he didn't realise this.

How about $342 million in federal subsidies for the Winter Olympics? How does Romney feel about spending like that?

Yup, this is pretty stupid. Cut taxes, increase spending, and then whine about the resulting deficit/increasing debt. You don't have to look further than states with initiatives to see the resulting chaos.

It usually starts with taxes (lower/capped property taxes (of course watch big business convince them corporate property taxes need to be cut too) and supermajority requirements to raise taxes) and then increase spending on prisons with mandatory minimum sentences.

Oh shoot, now we have a deficit and corporate giveaways in healthcare and prisons is crowding out the rest of the budget? Blame the state legislature! Throw them all out!
