Beyond looking very arrogant- talk like this is what scares people like me who would otherwise not have a big problem with the President. He has not been terrible in policy but we see glimpses every once in a while of what a second term would look like...

-attack on religious freedom with the contraception policy
-DOJ investigating NYPD
-DOJ overturning state voter ID laws
-Obama wanting more flexibility to discuss missile defense

Fear of what he would do after he doesnt' have an election to win will unite the GOP behind Romney- as I said in another post I would've though about voting Goode if I didn't believe Obama would take a left turn the day after his re-election.

The media, for some reason (he hasn't exactly been an exciting President from a media perspective) wants Obama re-elected, so they're trying to tie everything negative going on to Republicans and make Obama seem like the cool hand at the wheel. The opposite is true, of course.

why is this the worst thing in the world for Republicans?  I can think of dozens of personality flaws that are more harmful than arrogance.

The 'attack on religious freedom' is an attack on the ability of religious authorities to control the lives of people. Was the Inquisition an expression of religious freedom? Were witch-hunts? Pogroms? Those all had the approval or at least the implicit consent of religious authorities.

Police brutality is always fair game for investigation.

Laws that disenfranchise voters to the advantage of one party beg for challenge. Who wants to strengthen the likes of state Governors whose approvals are already in the toilet or are soon to go there?

We have a good President -- better than average by most historical standards -- dealing with the aftermath of the worst in American history.

Actually, the Republican Party primary electorate as a whole should be blamed for "making trouble" by humiliating the inevitable triangulation champ bound to lead the US to a new dawn by denying him the nomination as long as possible. Who finds irony in my attempt to ironize politico's attempt to find a scapegoat for a primary season, that - in the perspective of 2010 and the Republican confidence in winning 2012 -  seems to be as THE capital political market failure - can keep it for him- or herself.

Politico, you sound aggrieved that Republican primary voters want someone they can trust to push Republican positions.  If you actually believe in the entire Republican platform, what good does it do to elect a RINO who can only be trusted on the economic issues?  Then there is the whole question of whether Romney is electable.  The only way Romney can win is if the economy gets noticeably worse than it is now, but it isn't politically palatable to say that.  He's proven that in order to for him to win, it either has to be a place where the Republicans have no shot at picking up EVs or where he can massively outspend his opponent.  Romney won't be able to outspend Obama by 4:1 or more.

Definitely not.  The surest way to lose an election is to make plans for what you will do if you lose an election.  There will be plenty of time for transition planning after the election if it is needed.  (Way too much time in fact.  Two and a half months between election day and inauguration day is ludicrous.)  So while I hope he loses, I won't fault him for acting on the assumption he will win.
