Well, I like this girl, and I found out she likes [shudders] Christian rock....  Anyway, what the Hell do I do about it?  If she has this kind of taste in music, what the f--k else is she gonna suck at picking?  Should this matter?

It shouldn't be a deal breaker by itself, but if there are other signs she might be a bit whacky.....  I'd be extra cautious if it's the only thing she listens to.

On the other hand, most people like stupid things when they are teenagers...some grow out of it, others still listen to ____insert your favorit band here____.

as for converting this girl, give her a copy of Pedro the Lion's It's Hard to Find a Friend.  the frontman, David Bazan, apostated around 2004, so if she likes it just continue to lead her through the discography and into our nontheistic, anomic promised land.

Tell her you like her, go on a few dates with her if she's willing, and see if you still like her after that. You won't find anyone who is perfect and shares all your interests, so you really need to find out if the pros outweigh the cons.

To give a personal example, I dated a girl who I was introduced to and liked her alright at first. She seemed smart and she was kind of cute. However, later it became a hassle. She liked to talk on the phone for about an hour four to five times a week, she would forget things that I just said to her, and she would say extremely dumb things every now and then that would make me want to bang my head up against a wall to make my brain stop hurting. The final straw was when she asked me whether or not "The Lord of the Rings" was based on a true story... yeah, really, she seriously asked me that. I'm pretty sure she was still interested in me, but I ended it after three dates, which for many is about the time when they know if they want to continue a new relationship or not.

Frustrating as it was, I think it's better to take a chance. It didn't work out for me, but I'm glad to have had the experience because I learned a good deal about dating and I can apply that experience to the future.

Agreed with the above re: that by itself shouldn't be a deal-breaker, but it points to a trend that might possibly be a deal-breaker.  Again, though, a lot of it depends on what kind of person you are.

Should this matter?

Disparate tastes in music can be a problem.  Let's say she likes Christian rock, and you like Italian opera.  This is okay if she can tolerate opera and you can tolerate Christian rock.  From time to time she'll drag you to a Christian rock show.  If you really can't deal with this then it's obviously best that you break it off cleanly.  Most people don't mind sitting through a little of their least favorite music once  in a while, though.

Food is a bigger problem.  If you really have disparate tastes in food, it'll never work.  (Ask her if she'll still let you do her even if you break up.  Most girls won't go for that, but it's always worth asking.)
