At Mitt Romney’s proposed California beach house, the cars will have their own separate elevator. There’s also a planned outdoor shower and a 3,600-square foot basement — a room with more floor space than the existing home’s entire living quarters.
Those are just some of the amenities planned for the massive renovation of the Romneys’ home in the tony La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego, according to plans on file with the city.

A project this ambitious comes with another feature you don’t always find with the typical fixer-upper: its own lobbyist, hired by Romney to push the plan through the approval process.

I can't believe I'm going to defend Romney...

But...

It's his money he can do whatever the hell he wants with it. I'm tired of the schtick that Liberals use to try and shame the wealthy.

He earned every penny of his fortune, and has the right to use it in anyway that pleases him.

For the record, I'm not questioning Romney's right to have car elevators or whatever else he has so don't call me a Socialist, Winny/Politico.

I don't think anyone is questioning Romney's right to spend his money however he wants, but rather his intelligence or lack thereof. Like it or not, a renovated $12 million dollar mansion where the cars have their own elevator is a wonderful piece of publicity for the Obama campaign and anyone else who wants to cast Romney as an out-of-touch elitist.

I question his 'right' - it isn't a right but rather a privilege: a power over others who must toil to create his wealth, his elevators, his cars, etc.

And he certainly didn't 'earn' it, he got it be enslaving others.  The capitalist system is one of slavery, and people of Romney's class should be guillotined.

I mean, I agree he can spend his money on whatever he wants, but what kind of person needs a f**king elevator for his car?

Only half right. He made most of his money by firing people.

It increases the capacity of a garage, like so:

Probably more common in Manhattan apartment buildings than anywhere else.

That could look interesting after a big earthquake. Of course it'd be no big deal to Romney, it'd cost like 1-2% of his disposable income to replace them.

So they need a car elevator for a Mustang and a Cadilac? I get the sense that once this campaign is over the Romneys are finally going to get some of those fancy European cars they have been wanting but cant buy due to politics
