Suddenly, hiking the Appalachian trail doesn't seem so bad.

At least if she were in the Senate with Rick Scott they could start their own "Crook Caucus".

Funny how in 2010, people were already talking of Haley 2016.

I have no idea what it is with the 2010 cycle and the sudden deluge of crook governors.

Well, this is certainly amusing! Her Lieutenant Governor resigned three weeks ago after being embattled on dozens of ethics charges. The Senate President Pro Tem became the new Lieutenant Governor, one Glenn McConnell, whose only significance of note is being a vitriolic supporter of the Confederate flag (and at one point claimed that an attempt to take down a Confederate battle flag was equivalent to "cultural genocide"). Meet your next governor, South Carolina!

This is wheat happens when you elect unqualified candidates just for the sake of landing a bloody nose on the incumbents.

Neither Haley nor Scott beat incumbents and they both succeeded Republicans.

I'm just referring to the general nation wave. Rick Scott certainly wouldn't have won with out it and South Carolina would've been very close.

2010 cycle of GOP Governors is politics version of the 1986 NBA draft.

She was on a VP list?

She had been touted a lot as a possible VP choice for Romney. She endorsed him earlier than others did and became one of his surrogates.

Are there any rumors or stories as to what this is about?  Did she just fail to report income, or what was considered income, because she took "gifts" or had a business and had phoney expense deductions or what?  It has to be pretty egregious for your tax reporting problems to be deemed appropriate to treat as a criminal rather than civil matter.

I remember reading that she's quite unpopular in South Carolina, if not quite at Kasich/Scott levels - I assumed it was just general incompetence, but maybe this has something to do with it. Wink

Rumor is it has to do with bookkeeping for her father's Sikh worship center.

Meet your next governor, South Carolina!

Now, now.  McConnell does have an interest in the Confederacy, which for some people is controversial, so it has gotten outsized importance in his Wikipedia article since there was no real reason for people outside the state to pay much attention to him until lately.  Other than his Confederacy quirk, he is by the standards of South Carolina politics a moderate Republican, and a competent one.  The way our State Senate works, the president pro tem is usually a centrist as the Republican usually squabble over two candidates and the Democrats pick the one who they think is less likely to turn even trivial matters into party-line votes.

At this point, I'm more inclined to suspect fiscal incompetence than fiscal criminality on Haley's part if there is anything more than smoke here.  At this point not even the local alternative newspaper is covering it, and they usually do a decent job of covering such stuff.

Damn I was hoping more details emerged from her affair.
I don't like Haley, but I'm convinced that there was no affair. Will Folks and Larry Marchant made their allegations for purely political reasons.  The only thing I'm not sure of is whether Will Folks did it in hopes of helping Haley win the primary, which is what it did.
