Shua, if we keep the payroll tax as is and institute the cuts as presented in this bill, how much revenue will we be getting from the taxes and how much will we be spending if we pass this bill. Trying to figure out how much we would still be taking from the general revenue. Thanks.

I still don't quite get why we need to raise this tax multiple times over the year.

It's not eliminating the timeframe, it's eliminating the increase itself.  I wouldn't object to an Amendment that merely spreads things out more.

Yankee, if I were to introduce an Amendment expanding the timeframe of the last couple of increases, would you go along with it?  Or is 4.5% as high as you'll go?

When you say "as is" do you mean the current law or the current rate?

I mean if we keep the payroll tax and it's increases in place as was passed in the social security bill.

The 6.5% tax will mean $750 billion/yr once fully implemented. If this bill passes, the cost of the program will be about $950 billion/yr.

Thank you for that. Scott, you want to stop the increase in payroll taxes and set it at 4.5%?

I thought 4.5% was reasonable and I really don't see why we'd increase the rate periodically, so I suppose so?  Unless there's a reason why we shouldn't keep it at the same rate...
