Eau Claire was kind of a weird county for Huck to be so strong in in 2008, so who knows.

Thanks, Torie and rbt48... I will say the democrats turned out for Santorum in Wasconsin in more then twice the numbers that I expected.

What is Iowa's problem? Are they withholding there votes Chicago style until it is known how many votes are "required?" Are they a caucus county, and the Paulites shut it down?  And why is the county named Iowa, when that tribe was in Iowa?  Why?

Does anywhere care to explain this lacunae? I mean, I understand how Dane swung its way, but Eau Claire swinging the other way, with Huckabee voters going Mittens in large numbers in Huck's premier county?  Why?

I'd hold off on any analysis until more than 43% of the county is in.  It could just be that the more Romney/McCain-friendly areas of the county came in first.

Gingrich did his best in the state in the counties just south of Eau Claire, FWIW.

This of course is my most favorite county in the United States. It's personal - despite its politics. Smiley

Will Santorum picked up any delegates from Maryand?

In his best CD in MD, Santorum is down by just over 10 points.  MD was "Romney's Romp," and I expected Rick to win at least one district.

Even counting a home-state boost, the returns in northern and western Maryland don't bode well for Santorum.

Most of MD is not in any PA media market.  One of the two counties Rick won was in the Pittsburgh media market, and the only county in a Pennsylvania media market.  I would also guess than Romney wasn't buying air time in the Pittsburgh media market.

Well F Iowa County. I am tired of waiting. It has no real vote potential anyway. Rick gets 9 delegates tonight - 3 more than my near "certain" prediction. WI-08 went nutter, and defied all my models -without my permission. I will always root for any team playing against the Packers from here on out. They play in a bad place, because they don't fit my model up there. Maybe they vote  in accordance with random ordered chaos theory, which only Muon2 could understand - certainly not I. It is one region that I understand the least, and I admit it.

So, Romney 5 CD's, Santorum 3 CD's?

Yes.   AP has Romney winning WI-02 by about 1,400 votes with 100% reporting.   WI-01, WI-04, WI-05 and WI-06 went to Mitt by larger margins.

Maryland is all in, except for absentees and provisionals.  Romney was kept under 50%, Santorum under 30%.  From the AP:

Romney 116,922 (49.1%)
Santorum 68,847 (28.9%)
Gingrich 25,966 (10.9%)
Paul 22,645 (9.5%)
Huntsman 1,393 (0.6%)
Perry 1,037 (0.4%)

MD SoS is showing slightly different numbers with a higher tally and one precinct outstanding.  Romney might have ended up with a rounded 49.2% instead of 49.1% before absentees.

Wisconsin ended up pretty close. They probably called it earlier than they should have.

Clearly Romney is really starting to excite the base (not).

What's up with Waukesha again ?

Didn't this county already create problems in that Supreme Court race ?

Someone should please fire all the election officials in Waukesha and replace them with someone else. They are incompetent (or fraudsters).

Don't know if anyone has pointed out Gingrich's freak 22% performance in Trempealeau County, where Callista is from.

To be fair to Waukesha, I'm not sure tonight would have been considered weird were it not for past history.  They put up early votes slightly earlier than average, and then submitted their first wave of ballots around the middle of the pack.  I'm not sure what's taken the final batch so long relative to the west of Wisconsin, but Wisconsin finished up faster than any state so far, I think.  I suppose it looks pretty conspicuous at this point...but it's an improvement, no? A fine choice. Many of my HS classmates went to UW Stout in Menominee. The town is a nice stop off I94 from Chicago to the Twin Cities.

The AP hasn't updated since 2 am. There's a 6 am report on the county website.

Actually the Iowa originated near the Great Lakes and were forced westward across the Mississippi during the 18th century as part of the ripple effect from European colonization.
