Basically, I'm going to re-run all of the U.S. Presidential elections, then post the results here. The result will be something like an interactive timeline. The first two elections will probably be landslides, but hopefully this will gin up some interest.

Quick question: What exactly do you mean by "re-run?"

A poll will be posted with all of the candidates from the election (within reason), and the forum members will cast votes.

Thanks -- can't take credit for it as a similar game was running on AH.com. I set it up here because for a while it looked like that game would be shut down (long story), but I'm curious to see how this board differs from that one.

If our result is different from reality, would that person be included in the poll next election as president?

Hadn't planned on it, no -- it's tempting, but I'd like to see how each election goes as is. (Frex, I'm curious to see how people vote in '72, but it won't be nearly as fun if it's Nixon-Humphrey redux.)

After this, I might do a more "interactive timeline" sort of thing, though probably not starting all the way in 1789.

EDIT: Although.... it occurs to me that if the 12th amendment is never implemented, I could do what you want without eliminating any OTL candidates. Let's see how the 1796 and 1800 elections turn out. Wink

1789:

George Washington: 65 EVs
John Adams: 36 EVs
John Jay: 22 EVs
John Rutledge: 15 EVs

So, Washington and Adams are elected as in OTL -- but Washington doesn't get his unanimous vote this time. Wonder who doesn't like ol' Geroge... (BTW, I'm all in favor of people talking in the poll threads.)

1792:

Thomas Jefferson (Democratic-Republican) 106 EVs
George Washington (Federalist) 92 EVs
George Clinton (Democratic-Republican) 40 EVs
John Adams (Federalist) 13 EVs

Wow, did not see that coming. Apparently the board doesn't like Federalists, even when they're the father of our country.

There didn't seem to be enough interest. If anyone has any ideas about how to advertise, I'm open.
