What states do you expect Obama to campaign heaviest in this fall?  Which are the states that will be strongly contested

It's ridiculous how much effort Democrats still put into PA and how many people still think that it's a "swing state" when it comes to presidential politics. PA hasn't went for a Democratic candidate by less than 2.5 points since 1996 (and that's only if you combine Dole/Nader totals). Nevada at this point is still far more of a swing state, if for no other reason than it hasn't been going for Democratic candidates by decent margins for the past twenty years.

I  genuinely think he will be competing heavily in NC, maybe even more so than in places like VA and OH. Over the past three and a half years, he's made more visits and references in speeches to North Carolina than any other state to my knowledge. I don't think he's ready to let go in NC.

He should definitely add North Carolina and Missouri to that list -and if things are going really well for him polling-wise, Arizona and Georgia as well.

I think a campaign official said something a while back about trying to contest NC a lot. That's why the convention's in Charlotte.

If the race in the fall looks like the race now, Obama will be campaigning wherever he can help the Dems pick up or retain House or Senate seats.  However, even with as poor a candidate as Romney, I expect the race to tighten up, plus the unexpected could happen so I doubt if Obama will consider doing that until the last couple of weeks.

I expect he'll be concentrating on Florida,  Iowa, North Carolina, Ohio, Omaha, Pennsylvania, Virgina.

Nevada and New Hampshire will get some campaigning, but little to none in actual Obama visits since they are small and not adjacent to other potential prizes.  Romney's more likely to campaign in those states, but that's to get a leg up on the 2016 primaries if by some miracle he wins in the fall.   Colorado also falls into this category except that if the race looks close nationally, it'll see a good deal of Obama.

If the race gets to the point where states like Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, and Missouri are possible then Obama need to start campaigning not for his own election but to help the Democrats get as many Congressional seats as possible.
