My collegiate alma mater, Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma is currently an NAIA school.  However, last week, the NCAA has approved their application to begin the process of transitioning to NCAA Division II Athletics and Academics in the Great American Conference (GAC).  This is a huge accomplishment for Northwestern and something that I predicted a decade ago.  I'm proud to be a Northwestern Ranger!!

That Northwestern Oklahoma State is in a higher athletic division now. Presumably that means more money, although that's not necessarily the case.

true.  sometimes it is a money loser, since there are certain requirements involved.  the school spends the money to meet those requirements and then cant get the revenue coming in.

NAIA to NCAA Division II is more of a lateral move than a promotion.  The NAIA has been shrinking for decades now.
