the cupboard is by no means as bare for the Orioles as it was in 05 (they have 2 of the top 10 prospects in the game according to most lists) but a collapse here would not shock anybody outside of possibly the Angelos family.

I think Trumbo is going to surprise some people tonight. He has amazing raw power; he quite nearly hit it completely out of Safeco Field in BP a couple times. I wouldn't be surprised if he hits several 500+ feet.

I love that a team as mediocre as the Giants has four players starting in the All-Star Game. The NL kind of sucks this year.

Well to be fair, Panda and Posey should not be starting.

Neither should Melky Cabrera, as a matter of fact. He's been good, but he's not one of the top three outfielders in the league.

That said, Pablo Sandoval was far and away the best third baseman in the league in 2009, but David Wright started the All-Star Game while Sandoval didn't even make the team; forgive me if I'm not sympathetic now.

Trumbo hit one projected at 490 feet. Not quite 500, I guess. Tongue

Anyway, it was a decent derby. Major LOL at Cano and the fans; that was by far the best part of the night. Trumbo did pretty well; I hope he's back in the Derby before long. Congrats to Fielder.

I don't get it. Wright was having a better year and, imo, deserved to start. Just as DW, as you previously stated, had no business starting (or even being in) the AS game in '09.  This is an aspect of fan voting that I don't like.

While it would have been nice to see RA start as a Met fan, I really saw nothing wrong at all with Cain starting.  He is clearly a more reliable option, and I'm certainly happy that the Giants came up big for the senior circuit.

I'm kidding, of course. It was certainly the best All-Star Game ever.

It warmed my heart to see Verlander get squashed. I can't stand that guy. Also, pretty much every Texas player failing miserably, especially Harrison, was nice too.

I'm just disappointed Verlander had to waste that disastrous performance in a game that doesn't count instead of putting one in the L column for Detroit. I guess it could have been worse if it had happened against the White Sox.

Justin Verlander is on my fantasy baseball team, so I'm glad he didn't waste the poor start. Smiley  I've gone from 9th to 3rd in just a month, because of him and RA Dickey.

Dillon Gee (the Mets fourth starter) likely goes down for the year just as it appeared he was starting to put in together. I really hope this isn't the start of a 2nd half collapse because this has been a real fun team to watch.

This is from the Twitter of a Giants beat writer

Brandon Belt is hitting .250/.360/.408
Hector Sanchez is hitting .278/.282/.381

It's easy to say that we would do better than the management at their jobs, but I'm pretty sure I would be a better manager than Bruce Bochy.

Posey is a better catcher than Sanchez & Belt is a better first baseman than Posey. Better bat or not, the Sanchez/Posey experiment is tempting fate with its error potential.

It's an offensive downgrade and a defensive downgrade! Hector Sanchez has done literally nothing well this year!

I've actually developed a Zen like acceptance and calm at seeing the bullpen blow every game. Sadly, this is likely the end of any playoff dreams.

Sanchez is on the 15-day DL & now we're starting Whiteside at C and Posey at 1B. Whiteside, the guy who was hitting .241 in AAA at Fresno. I'd probably ask for a trade if I were Belt.

All I can really say about baseball is, if the Pirates continue to play this way, there'll be a parade in Pittsburgh at the end of the year honoring them for finally not being pathetic.

That would be hilariously patronising, the city of the Penguins and Steelers parading around a team for being OK.
