Not to take anything away from Schweitzer's record, which seems strong, but he also benefits from the inferiority complex of a lot of white male Dems. Since Republicans tend to attack Democrats as effete wimps, there's been this desire (especially among Netroots types) to counterattack with macho candidates like Wes Clark, Paul Hackett, the various "fighting Dems" from '06, Webb, Tester etc. Even Kerry's nomination reflected this to some extent. The obsession with the West and with being pro-gun (in contrast to emasculated, soccer-mom-courting '90s Dems) is also a part of this, and has been a big part of the mentality at places like Kos (about 65% male at last count).

While Obama killed OBL and does have a penis (in contrast to his former primary opponent), he hasn't completely eradicated the Dems' wimp image and obviously has problems with white male and rural voters. So I guess there's still a desire for a "rugged" Western Dem who will show that progressives have cajones too and like to shoot things as much as any Republican.

Women and minorities - who make up the decisive core of the Democratic coalition - don't have the same bolo-tie/gun fetish, so Schweitzer probably won't get far in the primaries, even as he wins (white-guy-dominated) Internet polls month after month.

In order of preference: O'Malley, Feingold, Warner, Schweitzer, Biden. If Warren wins her own Senate seat this year, then she might be my top choice.

After an agonizing 30 seconds, I decided to vote Warren over Schweitzer. I think the democrats have a good (prospective) field ahead for 2016, and I'm excited to see how it takes shape in the next few years.

In order:
Warren
Schweitzer
Fiengold
Clinton
O'Malley
Patrick
Shumlin
